What is a normal Instagram engagement rate? We measured 2,549 accounts.
The median post gets likes and comments equal to 1.28% of followers: 3.04% for accounts under 10,000 followers, 0.61% over 10 million. Most accounts above 100,000 are under 1%, and photos beat videos for two in three accounts that post both.

Most big Instagram accounts are losing followers. We read 4,467 of them every day for a month.
Between September 8 and October 8, 2026 we took 131,982 exact follower readings of 4,467 Instagram accounts. 54% ended the month lower, and 69% of those with a million or more, including 7 of the 10 biggest accounts on Instagram.
