Yesterday was National Nonprofit day!
What are the core career skills needed to bring the passion of a story or idea to become a sustainable & impactful organization? For the latest @forbes article, I had the pleasure of discussing this with @madchenamick & @minatobias_ of @dontmindme as well as @mr_rawle of the @apa_foundation to develop this for the next generation of leaders.
#Foundations and #nonprofits are positioned to change the world. Investing in the next generation of leaders!

A huge thank you to @lanaebrody and her team at @people for going above and beyond to tell our story with compassion and the collective intention to help others 🙏🏼
I can’t tell you how proud I am of our son @slyalexis_ who has truly turned his diagnosis into his superpower 💪🏼 His dedication to reach back and help others find their own unique path to recovery is awe inspiring. He has always shared that “being of service” gives his life purpose. We can all learn so much from his journey, and when we are brave enough to share ours, true healing begins.
I waited until the print version of this story came out to post, because I take the responsibility seriously when sharing our journey (which parts can be shocking) to tell it in its entirety. Unfortunately when these kinds of stories are truncated (which had to be done for the online version), they can easily become “clickbait” material. My family and I (along with our team @dontmindme) are dedicated to erase the stigma surrounding mental health, not feed into it.
@lanaebrody (working closely with @alainabendi) spent hours interviewing us and weeks putting this 4 page exclusive together. When roadblocks popped up, she persevered to make sure the intention of the story was honored 💚
Please find the magazine in stores NOW!!! (Feb. 6th 2023 edition) …and follow our work at dontmindme.org #youarenotalone

On Friday @geffenacademy was thrilled to have the @dontmindme team of @minatobias_ @madchenamick and @slyalexis_ visit our school to learn more about our Wellness program.
Don’t MiND Me was created by the Amick-Alexis family after their own experiences with seeing how broken the mental healthcare system is. They started the org to provide scholarships for people who need primary mental health treatment that are under-insured or have insufficient payment options. They are also in the development stage of opening their own treatment center, the Mental Health Recovery of Palm Springs.
They met with some of our seniors to learn more about what is possible when students learn about mental health and healthy relationships once a week for every year of their education from grades 6-12. Our students shared insights about how normalizing mental health improved their friendships, opened communication in their families, increased their willingness to talk about their emotions and how they feel learning about these topics will positively impact their futures.
Thanks again for visiting us!

It’s National Nonprofit Day! 💚 Get Involved with @dontmindme. We’re celebrating the progress made possible by our community and looking ahead to what’s next.
ADVOCACY
This Fall, we’re meeting students where they are - on campus! We’re creating multiple points of access to mental health information, resources, and support, bringing resources directly into the student environment and making it easier to know where to turn, what options are available, and how to take that first step before, during, and beyond a moment of crisis. More details to come!
ACCESS
We’re making treatment accessible for ALL. Since our gala in March, our Crisis Intervention Scholarship Fund has already helped over a dozen people access long-term treatment.
ACTION
Making long term solutions the standard for care. The Mental Health Recovery of Palm Springs is our comprehensive and integrated approach to address the mental health crisis. By providing a continuum of care from crisis stabilization to long-term recovery support, the MHRPS will fill a critical gap in services.
HOW YOU CAN HELP US
💚 Donate Help fund treatment and expand our programs.
👥 Host a Giving Circle Bring your community together around mental health.
🙌 Volunteer Share your time, skills, and connections.
📣 Spread the Word Help us amplify the mental health conversation.
🤝 Partner With Us Bring your organization, business, or ideas to the table.
Thank you for continuing to show up for our mission and our dream to make mental health care more accessible than it was for our family in crisis. Everyone deserves the chance to heal, and with your help, we can make our community a beacon of hope for others to follow.
With gratitude,
The Amick-Alexis Family

The @apapsychiatric community showed up in a big way on our favorite night of #APAAM26, the APA Foundation’s annual Gala ✨ Held this year at San Francisco City Hall, the Gala included remarks from San Francisco Mayor @danielluriesf, an introduction to our newest board member (@madchenamick), and a triumph for the Minnesota District Branch as they won our inaugural District Branch Challenge — and the chance to donate $10,000 to a charity of their choice.
Thank you for joining us at the Gala to create a mentally healthy nation. We could not connect communities to mental health support without you. To make a gift today, visit apaf.org/give 💙🧠
