I’ve been working on this art and animation style for the surf game. It’s a new concept I’m feeling out. What do you think? I went with some friends to a remote volcanic island that used to be a secret nuclear base. Now it’s abandoned. We were looking for surf. It was deep winter, and none of it was easy to get to. We spent a little over a week scouring the coast, at times hiking many miles with board and packs, trying to access various wave setups. What really struck me was how quickly civilization falls away. And also, what a crazy idea and undertaking it was for the US navy to construct a base in this remote outpost, the logistics, at this scale, and at that time in history, partially terraforming the island. Chalk it up to Arctic surf research. 06 Nov 2026

There is nothing like fjord surfing. Here @ellithor collects the rewards of his strange obsession. @bobcatdavis and I joined up w @chrisburkard to shoot a story for @fahertybrand and we decided to capture some of it on 16mm film, old school, to bring out the deeper feeling that this magical place holds, a feeling that is hard to put into words. 05 Nov 2026

What makes this wave interesting is where it was captured. The Bering Sea of Alaska is commonly known for deadly weather, ice storms, and horrendous wind. But as it turns out, there are in fact moments when the conditions can align like this. Calm in the midst of chaos. And not only that, this wave in particular was blessed with a geography that allowed me to shoot right into the barrel from nearby, and at water level, which itself is a very rare situation. Almost giving the impression that it was filmed up close and in the water. And to capture this moment with cold water surf legend @petedevries was the icing on top. The first time I was on this boat was during the filming of Under An Arctic Sky. It was deep winter, and an approaching storm threatened our attempt to find a remote wave near the Arctic circle. This time I was again filming with @chrisburkard , but the setting could not have been more serene. When moments like this happen, when the sea is a mirror, and the fjord is filled with silence, it’s hard to believe it is even real. In 2009 I fired up wordpress and began my journey as a surf journalist focused on Arctic regions. This entry still sticks with me, mainly because to this day so little is known about surf setups in North Korea. A friend of mine visited the country on a surf trip a few years after this and reported that the waves were quality. Let me know if you have any info. 21 Oct 2026

We live in an age when creating stuff from scratch is in question. It started with a wild idea from @chrisburkard . Then the question ‘how do we even pull this off?’ The brief was simple. Skits based on the lessons from Chris’s latest book ‘Out There’, with one-shot camera moves, where the camera never stops rolling, and every person and prop is timed like a stage play. So, we schemed some ideas and began rehearsing a month prior to the shoot. We found a sound stage at @visualizeventura , and hired our good friend @stattmetal who bought our vision to life with an SUV full of props. It was a reminder of how fun it is to make real stuff with your friends. Out now on @sonyalpha YouTube channel. Go check em out. I was really stoked when @trakgroundwear hit me up to join their ambassador team. The projects I work on involve not just shooting on the ground in remote locations, but countless in between moments, long flights and lots of weather delays.
