I got to the top of Mount Washington after somehow never actually having been to its summit. It was October 2024, another fall of trying to encourage folks to vote, and I was in New England volunteering for a series of events. I did a version of one of those big White Mountain traverses with @chrismshane, joined by @tleeski and @jordancargill_outdoors. I spoke at Dartmouth with @elizabeth.burakowski and Torey for @protectourwinters, who also took a group of us climbing at Rumney. I also made my first visit to @fischerski NA HQ, ran some other trails, met up with a bunch of volunteer athletes planning election stuff, it was great. That election ended differently than this week’s, but each time it feels important to me to at least try as hard as I know how. 06 Nov 2026 *Update: we full! Let’s see how this goes, and stay tuned for more.* Hi SLC backcountry skiers: let’s try something new and support those hoping to stay safer, save money, be more efficient, build community, and maximize enjoyment on skins. Come over, have a slice of pizza, and pick up some tips during Garage Sessions… Session 1: “WHAT WE CARRY” (in our backpacks (when we backcountry ski)) •1 backcountry ski education topic per Session •special guest at each Session (or whenever I convince them) •regardless of your ability, you’re guaranteed to learn something new (and if you think that’s impossible for you, please stay home) •casual, unsponsored, and unaffiliated •required: open mind, learning mindset, belief that everyone belongs, willingness to meet people, warm clothes for a cold garage, backcountry experience (this is not a first step in your backcountry journey) If there is enough interest to necessitate limits, I’ll cap it, mainly because I only have so many chairs, my garage is small, and I only want to buy so much pizza. If you’re committed to coming over, send me a DM with a line or two about your backcountry experience, and I’ll reply with details. If this goes well, what should be the topic for Session 2? 04 Nov 2026 You don’t like the candidates, don’t want to make time to research the judges/amendments/levees, and think the entire system is broken and corrupt. Your vote doesn’t matter. Candidates are all on two sides of the same coin. We need to tHiNk fOr OuRsElVeS, right!? Right? Well… The midterm election is happening with or without your vote, that’s for sure. And its results will impact you, and your friends and family, and your neighbors. Those big controversial topics that you have an opinion on, and that reflect your values? Decisions WILL be made about them. I suggest eligible voters actually vote, even if you don’t love the person for whom you’re voting. Voting for a mainstream party doesn’t mean you aren’t a critical thinker or that you’re hyper-partisan. It just means you’re in touch with reality and care about your community enough to make it a bit better, whatever that means for you. pic by @chrismshane 30 Oct 2026 We can power through imperfect conditions. Brody Leven is leading the way when it comes to human-powered ski ascents, and climate advocacy. The first step in any journey, whether as a skier or an advocate, is showing up. Join Brody and POW in showing up to vote this November, and be part of the solution. The full film "To Hill and Back" is coming soon. 🎥: @brodyleven @chrismshane @vagrants.tv #protectourwinters 15 Oct 2026 Daaaaaaaaaaaamnnnnnnn, You’re crazy for this one, @brodyleven ! You broke the internet with your Flaanimal 5.0, and you upped the bar with this one. For someone who’s a skier “not a biker”, you sure know your stuff! @garbaruk_components XPLR wide range 13 speed mullet and crankset. @ultradynamico rubber. @ritcheylogic classic . Silver spokes. Deeeep 3.0R Rodeo wheels. So fancy, so functional. Not much else needs to be said! Mebbe let’s toss in some emojis to say what words can’t: 😍🙌❤️👀🤤 ... #flaanimal #rodeospork #rodeowheels 15 Oct 2026 Two months before this I couldn’t walk. Long story. I won’t dwell. I’m glad I can walk again and to be further testing what walking can mean for me. (…pushing a bicycle through Greenlandic bogs with friends.) good shots by @joshreids 11 Oct 2026 The bike. The final piece of gear. Like on many bikepacking trips, my bike in Greenland was the only piece of gear where it was impossible to have the right tool for the job. There were just too many jobs. I could’ve had the right bike for pushing through bogs, but that’s the wrong bike for ripping downhill, or carrying gear, or preventing saddle sores, or traveling with, or mounting racks to. I chose a steel hardtail because it’s what I had. I bought this Wilde hardtail last year to ride in Basque Country and still use it. It’s my only MTB. The small and relentless bumps on the trail were what had me regretting a hardtail, as I was unable to sit down for extended times due to such a sore butt. But the hardtail also allows storage in a large frame bag and fewer moving parts. The steel had me comfortable when we were watching our fully loaded, un-packaged bikes get checked onto a small plane. But the rims were carbon. The 2.5” rear and chunky 2.6” front were maybe a good idea, maybe not, depending on when you asked me. Whatever. The bike got beat up in a way I’ve never seen a bike get used. The muddy, sandy, wet terrain was so, so damaging to any moving parts. It was incredible to see the reliability of electronic shifting tested so thoroughly; it never skipped a beat. My @hopetech brakes, crankset, bottom bracket, and headset couldn’t have been more abused, but somehow I never had to do anything other than squirt my caked cassette and chain with some water. But moving parts, in general, hated us. It’s hard to describe what we put our bikes through, how many frozen rivers we crossed and fell into, and how much dirt was in the hostel shower after we each showered with our bikes. Just be happy that you never have to hear the sounds my bike was making on day 3, let alone by the time we finished. pics by @joshreids, @chrismshane, @chrisburkard, and me. 08 Oct 2026 “The hardest miles of my life,” mentioned @chrisburkard during a particularly hard section. No one disagreed. With time, those miles will get easier in our memories. It’s already happening to me. Here is our reminder of not only the terribly slow travel across Greenland, but also how much we loved it. In fact, it was the reason we were there. -Brody 21 Sep 2026 Greenland. I always assumed my first time to Greenland would involve clicking into skis at some point on the journey. Instead I clicked into pedals (thousands of times), because one must get on and off their bike that many times to ride here, all to bike across Greenland’s longest continuous stretch of land not covered by its magnificent icecap. The Arctic Circle Track, basically a very unmaintained 4x4 trail, runs east from the coastal town of Sisimiut into just under 100 miles of pure Greenlandic wilderness. Traveling entirely above the Arctic Circle, the route leads Kangerlussuaq, where a brief reprieve of pavement, a tinge of civilization and hot food await. From here, a well-maintained gravel road continues on once more to Point 660. Then the road abruptly ends, conceding to 500 miles of ice. Bikepacking this route demands so much from you. What it takes from you is returned in the form of wisdom, friendship, and a rapidly growing list of new Arctic adventures to ponder. Images here are from the first day and next morning of our journey, which more or less involved us launching into the Greenlandic weather void of sideways rain, stout wind gusts, and massive, muddy hike-a-bike sections. In total, @brodyleven @chrisburkard @joshreids and I averaged about 4 miles an hour on our first day as we entered the land of endless mud bogs and fish filled creek crossings, all under a landscape that keep us constantly in awe. A soecial thanks to @hyperlite_mountain_gear @ibexwool @revelbikes @julboeyewearna who all helped in keeping us dialed. And to Stein, a local who became a fast friend to us all. 28 Sep 2026 To the ice cap and back. An incredible journey with the return leg providing clear skies for the aurora to come out and play. The ATV track is the only connecting "road" between Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq which sometimes disappears into a bog. A 7 day journey which was meant to be pretty relaxed with time for @chrisburkard to get in a bit of fishing turned into a suffer fest just to make it back in time for our ferry back to Nuuk. Thanks @brodyleven @chrismshane and @chrisburkard for an unforgettable trip into the relatively unknown. 14 Sep 2026 Some more moments from Greenland 🇬🇱 16 Sep 2026 Bags. All of the stuff from those previous gear posts, in addition to my food and fuel for Greenland, had to fit in these bags. In fact, I didn’t even use the smallest bag that’s pictured in the middle right (I replaced it with a small fanny pack that held my water bottle (soft flask) and a snickers bar). The top bags are a downtube bag and 2 panniers. Then a frame bag and a handlebar rack. Then my rear rack. And finally my handlebar roll and my top tube bag. Click on them or ask for brands. I am strongly pro-waterproof bags. I used to use all of the “waterproof” cordura, waxed canvas, and x-pac bags from the cottage brands, but they all soaked through, and I’d need to put stuff in dry bags, which didn’t pack well and was expensive and kinda sucked. Now I use actually truly waterproof bags. Waterproof enough that I can ride in Greenland in insane rainstorms with a down sleeping bag in my handlebar roll and it doesn’t even get damp. The zipper on my top tube bag is waterproof, so my toiletries don’t get wet, which means when I bring them into my tent at night they aren’t getting other things wet. Because unless I’m somewhere like Utah, things never actually have time to dry on these trips. With waterproof bags, the hardest part is making sure that no moisture gets inside the bags. That means morning planning of what I may need during the day and packing it in such a way that doesn’t require me to access waterproof bags (ie extra layers go inside my Fanny pack, which was sacrificially wet). The inside of the bags and their contents stayed dry, including when I was pulling my bike through rivers and bogs. I’ve chosen panniers for the past year over my typical seatbags or newer rack-top bags. I probably won’t do it again without a more secure system that allows me to keep the organization, waterproofing, and portability panniers provide. Typical attachment just isn’t sufficient for rough riding. I went very light but, as always, don’t feel as though I sacrificed safety or even warmth. I ate enough food to be happy, had a couple extra socks, and fortunately never needed to touch my extensive first aid nor repair kit. No backpack necessary for me. 01 Oct 2026
