Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Robert Fangman lived in Chelsea, Massachusetts. In Fall 2000, he left a career in sales to become a United Airlines flight attendant. Relatives said the job was ideal for Fangman, who loved international travel and fine food and wine. On 9/11, he was working aboard Flight 175 en route from Boston to Los Angeles. He was 33 years old. #NeverForget911 #911Museum

“All the Presidents' Wars: Twenty-Five Years of America's War on Terror”
Wednesday, November 11, 6 - 7 p.m.
Since the 9/11 attacks, four presidential administrations have confronted the challenges of terrorism, war, and national security, shaping U.S. policy at home and abroad and greatly impacting the lives of service members and their families.
In his new book “All the Presidents' Wars: Twenty-Five Years of America's War on Terror,” journalist and national security analyst Peter Bergen examines the decisions that defined America's response to 9/11 and the conflicts that followed.
In conversation with 9/11 Memorial & Museum Director Clifford Chanin, Bergen will discuss the evolution of the war on terror, the legacy of presidential decision-making over the past quarter century, and the lessons these policies hold for the future. This program will take place as part of our Salute to Service programming marking Veterans Day.

In the weeks following 9/11, Marvel Comics turned to one of its most recognizable heroes to reflect on the attacks.
This inked page from “The Amazing Spider-Man” Vol. 2, No. 36, published in 2001, is part of a story produced in just a few weeks and released by the end of the year. The issue was one of Marvel’s responses to 9/11, highlighting the heroism and sacrifice of emergency responders.
Created by writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist John Romita, Jr., with inks by Scott Hanna, the issue captured the emotions of a city and country still grappling with the attacks. It is one example of how comic book creators responded to 9/11 in real time, using the medium to document, reflect and remember.
The page is now on view in “Responding in Ink: Comic Books, Graphic Novels, and 9/11,” a new exhibition featuring approximately 50 works that explore how comics and graphic novels have responded to 9/11 and its aftermath.
Access included in your 9/11 Memorial & Museum ticket. Link in bio.

Each year, the #NYCMarathon brings people together from around the world, filling New York City’s streets with determination, strength, and a shared sense of purpose.
As runners make their way through the five boroughs, we remember those we lost on 9/11, including runners, neighbors, friends, and loved ones whose lives and legacies remain part of this city’s story.
Twenty-five years later, their memory continues to move us forward. Today, we honor them and the enduring spirit of a city that continues to show up, stand together, and move forward.

In the days and weeks following the 9/11 attacks, search and rescue dogs arrived at Ground Zero alongside their handlers. They searched through the debris for survivors and victims, worked long hours in difficult conditions, and provided moments of comfort amid an unimaginable scene.
German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, and other breeds took part. Each brought a unique set of skills, working closely with their handlers and first responders throughout the operation.
Today, we remember these remarkable K9s and the people who cared for and worked with them. Their service is an important part of the story of the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.

Olivia Perez-Johntry was just 10 years old when her father, Anthony Perez, was killed in the North Tower on September 11, 2001. Today, Perez-Johntry is a high school science teacher, drawing on her personal experience to show students that they too can move forward after hardship, and in doing so passing along her father’s legacy. Twenty-five years later, we honor those we lost, carry their memories forward, and reaffirm our commitment to never forget.

What can 25 years of engaging with places marked by mass trauma teach us about grief, memory, and rebuilding?
On Thursday, October 29, Clifford Chanin, Executive Vice President and Director of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, will join artist Todd Stone and architect Miguel Arraiz García for "What We Have Learned: Art, Place, and Mass Trauma," a public conversation exploring how art, architecture, and cultural institutions help us bear witness to loss, preserve memory, and consider what comes next.
Hosted at 3 World Trade Center, the event will bring together three perspectives on how places shaped by tragedy can hold meaning, honor the past, and help communities navigate the process of rebuilding.
Guests will also have the chance to explore "Witness Downtown Rising," an exhibition of 100 of Stone’s paintings documenting the World Trade Center site, and "Top of the World," an exhibition on the history of the site’s rebuilding.
