Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years since, a day that changed our country forever. A day we will never forget, and a day that deserves to be remembered not only for the tragedy, but for the incredible courage, sacrifice, and selflessness that followed. Last Saturday I ran my third 9/11 Heroes Run 5K. I run to remember the lives lost, to honor the heroes who ran toward danger while others were running away, and to recognize the men and women who stepped up to serve in the wars that followed. This year, the race felt even more personal. I am incredibly proud of my brother-in-law, who is a firefighter, and of my nephew, who is currently in the fire academy. Their willingness to serve, protect, and put others before themselves is something our family is incredibly proud of. Knowing that I have firefighters in my own family makes me think even more about the courage of those who answered the call on September 11th and of all the first responders who continue to answer that call every single day. But I also run because remembering matters. One day, there will be generations who know September 11 only from history books. Events like this help us tell the story, keep the memories alive, and make sure the significance of that day isn't lost with time. Three years of running this race, and it still carries the same weight. For those we lost. For those who ran toward the danger. For those who continue to serve. And for the families who carry their memories with them every day. We remember. We honor.
