(Content warning: Sexual assault) Cornell’s Students Against the Sexual Solicitation of Youth (@sassycornell) is petitioning New York lawmakers to close what advocates call the “voluntary intoxication” loophole.
ㅤ
State law recognizes that someone who is unconscious or physically helpless cannot consent, even if they chose to drink. It also covers mental incapacitation caused by substances administered without consent.
ㅤ
But when someone voluntarily drinks or uses drugs and remains conscious, being too intoxicated to consent may not meet the law’s standard.
ㅤ
The petition urges the State Assembly to pass A.101, covering cases where someone knew or should have known the other person was too intoxicated to consent.

These stuffed animals will be donated to the Advocacy Center, Catholic Charities, and the Tompkins County Department of Social Services
Through this hands-on activity, we aim to offer comfort, support, and a symbol of hope to those who have endured hardship. No crafting experience is needed—just bring your compassion and willingness to make a difference in someone’s life.

Join us at 5PM on October 17 at the Cornell Cinema for a screening of "Very Young Girls," a documentary that unveils the commercial sexual exploitation of adolescent girls in NYC. The movie sheds light on their harrowing journey to exit the commercial sex trade as they are sold by pimps and treated as adult offenders by the police. Additionally, unique footage taken by the pimps offers a revealing look into this exploitative gender-based violence against women.
We will be hosting a Q&A after the screening to explore the issue on a deeper level and share how you can get involved in the fight against the sexual exploitation of women and girls.

We are Students Against the Sexual Solicitation of Youth (SASSY) and we are hosting a movie showing for the film Very Young Girls which was produced in connection to our founding organization, GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Service.) Very Young Girls is an exposé of the commercial sexual exploitation of girls in New York City as they are sold on the streets by pimps and treated as adult criminals by police. The film follows barely adolescent girls in real time, using intimate interviews with them, documenting their struggles and triumphs as they seek to exit the commercial sex industry. The film also uses startling footage shot by pimps themselves, giving a rare glimpse into how the cycle of exploitation begins for many women.
