A viable alternative to conventional building materials, engineered wood is enabling taller, more resilient, and significantly lower-carbon buildings.
Designed by DIALOG, buildings like Vancouver's The Hive are supporting a shift toward more sustainable growth. As North America’s tallest seismic-force-resisting mass timber structure, the building signals what’s possible as cities look to decarbonize the built environment.

A standout example of how transit infrastructure can become civic space.
As featured in Interior Design magazine, Line 5 Eglinton brings together 15 underground stations designed to serve more than 100,000 daily riders, while creating a cohesive experience across the line.
“Warm material palettes, open sightlines, integrated daylight, and consistent wayfinding graphics anchored by signature Eglinton Orange—stitches the 12-mile line together while allowing each station to retain its own neighborhood character.”
The result is a transit system designed not only for movement, but for accessibility, adaptability and a lasting sense of place.

The Koffler Scientific Reserve complex, designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects, sits within 900 acres of lush forest in Ontario’s Oak Ridges Moraine – a place where architecture, ecology, and research come together.
Rooted in sustainability and a deep respect for place, the design showcases mass timber construction that connects seamlessly to its forest surroundings. Clad in charred cedar using the shou sugi ban technique, the architecture reflects both resilience and restraint. Carefully oriented to capture sunlight, breezes, and shifting seasonal views, the buildings minimize mechanical reliance while maximizing comfort and connection to nature.
A warm congratulations to Montgomery Sisam Architects and everyone involved in bringing this project to life.

A landmark project is taking shape in Canadian trade infrastructure.
Arcadis, in joint venture with Egis, have been appointed as Operator’s Engineer by the Montréal Port Authority and DP World for the Contrecœur Container Terminal Project. The major expansion will increase the Port of Montréal’s annual container-handling capacity by more than 60 per cent, supporting Canada's growing trade needs.
"This project will help strengthen supply chains, improve connectivity, and support long-term economic growth well beyond the Port of Montréal,” said Kevin Karaloff, Business Unit Leader, Ports and Marine, Arcadis.

In a new feature on the future of AI infrastructure with Under the Hard Hat, Arcadis experts Adrian Sluga and Malcolm Lobban share insights into what it takes to deliver complex data centre facilities.
From securing reliable power and navigating equipment lead times to addressing specialized labour shortages, they explore the critical challenges shaping data centre development across Canada. They argue that as demand continues to grow, early collaboration, integrated project delivery and modular construction will be key to building smarter, faster and more adaptable infrastructure.

What happens when pieces of Toronto’s past are given a new life among the trees?
At Guild Park, fragments of the city’s architectural history now live alongside gardens, forest and the shores of Lake Ontario. For Toronto artist Katharine Harvey, this unexpected meeting of architecture and nature became the inspiration for “Turning in the Light,” a new series of acrylic paintings exploring the histories, textures and changing light of this remarkable place.
Join Katharine on Sunday, October 4 at the Clark Centre for the Arts for the opening of Turning in the Light. The afternoon will include an opening reception and a guided tour of the exhibition and Guild Park, offering a chance to see the work and hear more about the history and places that inspired it.
• Opening Reception: 1–3 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2026
• Guided Tour: 3:15 p.m., led by John Mason, President of Friends of Guild Park
• Clark Centre for the Arts, 191 Guildwood Pkwy, Scarborough
• Exhibition runs: October 3–29, 2026

Developed by DIALOG in partnership with the City of Toronto, the Western Beaches Public Realm Plan balances climate resilience, improved access and new opportunities for recreation with the ecological and cultural character that makes the area special.
The 20-year plan looks to restore natural systems at the mouth of the Humber River, introduce meadows and water-retention landscapes, improve connections along the waterfront and explore new uses for heritage landmarks like the Joy Oil Gas Station and Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion.
Shaped by input from community and technical advisors alongside Indigenous leaders, knowledge keepers, community advocates and design professionals, the plan reflects a clear message from residents: make the waterfront more natural and resilient, without losing what makes it special.

What does it take to engineer one of Toronto’s most complex transit projects?
ReNew Canada takes a closer look at the engineering innovation and collaboration behind Line 5 Eglinton, one of Canada's most complex and significant transit projects.
From tunnelling beneath active streets to integrating with the existing TTC subway network, Line 5 presented complex engineering challenges at every stage.
“What I’m most proud of is the partnership spirit – a true partnership enacted throughout the life of this project. Riding the line and seeing it working as it was designed to do is a profound feeling,” Fouad Mustafa, Senior Business Development, Arcadis, told ReNew Canada.

Canada’s new federal “Equal Treatment” wage rules take effect this October, requiring federally regulated employers to take a closer look at their pay practices.
Employees performing the same or substantially similar work and paid on the same basis should generally receive the same wage rate, with some exceptions for factors such as seniority, merit, productivity, experience and qualifications.
Michelle McKinnon, employment lawyer and partner at Cassels, spoke to HRD, urging companies to, "Gather what your compensation practices and policies are, document how you do things and why we do it that way. Do that comparative analysis, and identify any potential gaps."
