My love for incredible places around the world was fostered first by the opportunity to get out and explore my own backyard. And as I began to look further and push harder as an athlete, I realized that consistent access to Public Lands has made me the athlete that I am today and is exactly what inspires me to help protect these places that so many of us find a sense of feeling home.
National Public Lands Day is TODAY and as 1% for the planet members, @publiclandsshop is doubling their commitment on all purchases made through 9/25. They are also offering free in-store equipment rentals & climbing passes all weekend long. SO... there is really no excuse not to get out and have some fun and/or try something new!
I'm hoping we can all take some time to continue to #GoPublic, and if you are inclined to volunteer and meet others who are like minded in your own community, Public Lands is hosting special events in all 7 of their regions. Getting out and getting after it is the best way to get to know your backyard Public Lands and anything you can do to get involved is another step in a meaningful direction for yourself and the future of our home planet.

Back bent and head down. I haven’t felt as sure-footed on Manaslu as I have on past adventure into the thin atmosphere of the high Himalaya. These past weeks have tested my resilience in new ways. The constant monsoon with its incessant rain and humidity has made me hopelessly homesick. I am challenged to find the peace and inspiration from the mountain when it’s been constantly shrouded in mist. Yesterday we ended our summit bid when we decided it was too dangerous to move from C3 to C4.
We subsequently decided to ski down from C3 knowing that would mean carrying our skis all the way back up the mountain again if, big if here, we try again for a summit. It was the best thing we could’ve done.

As soon as I made the first turn in the sticky hot pow, in a total white out, all the weight and seriousness that had been plaguing me this whole trip faded to the background. With @jimwmorrison we skied about 4500 ft of the 6000 ft descent to BC. It was full of shenanigans rappelling over seracs with our skis on, posing for pictures with climbers going uphill. Laughing, racing @namgye @ila_nuru @pemba_sharwa (they won of course) and generally just finally being present and actually seeing what I have been seeing for weeks but not absorbing (hope that makes sense). We got back to BC soaking wet, in the pouring rain, just in time for a hearty BC dinner. Smiling and laughing felt amazing!

In case you can’t read the the pulse ox it says 57 😱! Hoping a couple days at BC have bolstered those red blood cells cause we are heading out today to go for a summit push! Should take a couple days. 🤞 Excited to finally be bringing up our skis ⛷:)

Skin care at 20,000 feet. Sometimes it’s hard to keep lotions and potions from freezing so I usually keep them in my sleeping bag:) I freakin’ love the @timsnaturals trio of trauma balm, #balancingfaceoil and lip balm.

Add in a good @yeti hat, @thenorthface buff and an @outerugear nose cover and I’m armored up 😂

Setting up Camp 1 at almost 19k with @jimwmorrison @namgye @pemba_sharwa @ila_nuru. To be fair, they did most of the setting up while I sat on my pack 😂! It was nice to get up high on a gorgeous day. Lots of 🌞, not a lot of ❄️. Could use some more for skiing aspirations but I would rather err on side of too little snow than too much!

Heading to basecamp today! We’ve gotten some good acclimitization hikes in so hoping we don’t get too crushed sleeping at 16k tonite. @namgye has been setting the pace- 2200ft in 1hr 30 min to 17k!

We made it to the mountains yesterday. This a new part of Nepal for me and pretty excited to explore. Lots of monsoonal clouds and rain keeping the high mountains hidden from our view. 🏔

Climbing has been a part of my life since I was 19 years old. It has significantly shaped who I am, the places I’ve travelled, the people with whomI’ve been privileged to share climbing experiences with. From terror to triumph, tears to laughter, solitude to partnership, it’s been a path of joy, one that I hope to share with others.
