Exodia 2nd ascent ✅
I definitely felt it was sort of expected that I would go to check out this @elias_iagnemma’s masterpiece 👌 Nevertheless, I was very psyched. Elias came there to show me the boulder in September, explained all the beta to me, and I was even more psyched to get it done. Elias was incredibly nice and helpful; we made a really cool interview with him for the upcoming video about Exodia ✊ But I got a very nasty cold, then I got more duties to do on my agenda, and as soon as I felt fit to return 🇮🇹, it seemed that I had only two days left and the season might be over because of upcoming rain 😅 But I kept it together and executed very well in some of the most memorable moments of my career ☝️
There are some facts that everybody will be very curious to know ▶️ (swipe left)

I took 4 days in total, doing the very same sequence as @elias_iagnemma, changing the way I grab some of the holds (more crimping, less pinching) 🤌
It’s very much my style 👌 It’s not too much about kneebars (they are relatively simple); it is much more about heelhooking, tension and delicate body positioning. The second part is even more my style and I can reach one hold from one toehook without cutloose ☝️
My shape for this kind of boulder is pretty good, possibly my best ever? 🤔
I totally respect Elias for proposing 9A+, having his track record, having tried some other 9A boulders and being close, and still trying Exodia for 212 days (!!!), I would have done the same 👏 More about this in an upcoming YouTube video 👊
I think the boulder is 9A (V17) ☝️ I don’t comment on which part of the 9A range it is. To me, personally, it felt harder than Soudain Seul, and similar compared to Alphane or Mount Doom. But Exodia is possibly much more my style, and I will not be surprised if people find this harder than Alphane or Mount Doom 😉
Climbing on Exodia is extremely cool and very fun to project, even long-term; it is skin-friendly and offers cond

Little Boy du fond 8B+/8C ✅ (or soft 8C if you don’t believe in slash grades)
Post-comp day in Toit d’Orsay 🇫🇷 (considered part of Fontainebleau, very close to Paris) before taking a flight back home 🇨🇿. The psyche was high to climb on sandstone! I really wanted to try to flash the recent version of La Force 8B+ ✌️ The original version doesn’t exist any more, as a huge flake was broken, so the start is higher. My flash try ended at the crux shoulder move in the middle of the roof 🤔
This particular move was very extreme for me (I still suck in shoulder moves, even more so combined with toehook), so once I did it from the start, I continued via the hardest possible exit with Trinity 7C+ instead of Morpheus 7aC. And Little Boy du fond 8B+/8C (or soft 8C?) was born 👌 I did Vertical Art 8B to finish the day. Fun day with the Czech 🇨🇿 team and @lumartinez_93 👊 Toit d’Orsay is not the best place in the world 🌎, and it feels more like climbing circuits than bouldering, but a very fun place to climb with some unique moves. More info soon on @fanatic.climbing 🤜🤛

This is Cryo-Grip ❄️❤️ Coming soon to every crag! Want to know more and get a secret sneak peek? Let’s comment “AO Nails” to get an exclusive first look 👀
We worked with @mammut to find a solution to cool the bloodstream so you can finally climb hard everywhere 🥵 The polish contains endothermic microcrystals that react to adrenaline. ❄️ Long story short = the more pumped or more scared you are, the cooler your skin is and the better friction you have 👌
Better start thinking about Cryo-Grip and all those stone towers without allowed chalk would be even bigger paradise ⛏️⛰️

Three years ago, we opened a second @hangarosrava in Czechia 🇨🇿 together with @magmidt, @petewhittaker01, @will_bosi and loads of you 😎 It was a bloody brilliant evening 👌 You can watch the video from this spectacular event on my YouTube channel.
On 12 December, I’ll be back there with other top athletes as @jane_svecova (we’ve still got a few big surprises up our sleeve) for a fantastic comp & show 💪
So come and boulder with us ✊ But no pressure. There’ll be plenty of boulders for every climbing level. Watch others, swap beta and soak up the friendly vibe 🤜🤛 The evening grand final is yours to enjoy as a spectator, or to compete for a medal on the competition stage. Either way, it’ll be unforgettable 👊
Can’t wait to see you all in Ostrava soon 🙏 But hurry up. Spots are limited, so grab yours quickly. Check out the update on my website and sign up for a comp on Hangar’s website - links in BIO and stories ✌️
Can’t make it to Ostrava? 🥲 Don’t worry, we’re planning to stream the final round live on Hangar’s YouTube channel.

Scettro 8B+/8C FA ✅ Val Daone 🇮🇹
A cool session a couple of weeks ago in Daone with strong crew 💪 This boulder is a sort of link-up into classic Il Trono 8B, but how much FUN it is 👌
I haven’t worked the topout at all after my flash of Il Trono in summer, and when I arrived there from the ground K found out it was not as easy and despite trying my best to improvise it, I just had to let go. 🤨 Then I had to learn the trick and send it next go. Never underestimate “easy” topouts 🤜🤛
For the grade, I know slashgrades are not cool. Let’s say it is 8B+ hard, but then Trono as 8B doesn’t make much sense. But it feels too easy for 8C 👊

With @adam.ondra’s recent proposed downgrade of @elias_iagnemma’s 𝘌𝘹𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘢, the world’s first proposed 9A+ (V18)—Ondra calls it 9A (V17)—the Big Grading Questions rear their head again: How exactly are grades formulated, especially at the top end? Is objectivity possible? And really, what is the value of a climbing grade at all?
In 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 323, Owen Clarke (@opops13) went deep into the omnipresent issue of grades in rock climbing in his 6,000-word feature, “The Algorithm Will Grade You Now,” evaluating the merits of apps like Darth Grader and exploring this famously opaque topic with four climbers who have spent as much time as anyone thinking about grades: @adam.ondra @chris_sharma @onceuponaclimb and @fredrouhling.
“The debate reminded the the founders of Darth Grader of their own observations about the patterns of climbing grades,” begins Clarke. “Both mathematicians and programmers, they had noticed that any route, no matter the grade, could be broken down into segments, and if each individual segment of a climb was graded slightly lower or higher, the overall route grade would change by predictable increments.”
In contrast to the additive method of appraisal, Clarke argues that climbers, such as Adam Ondra, adhere to the “Gestalt Theory of Grading.” Gestalt theory emphasizes the importance of entire patterns and configurations, not mere individual components, in the evaluation of an entity.
While Ondra breaks down routes into sections, “The math of simply adding bouldering sections on top of each other, with rests in between, doesn’t really work. It all depends on the style of the problems, especially those higher on the route.” As Aristotle put it: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
Qualitative vs. quantitative. Art vs. science. Debates as old as time.
Ondra called Clarke’s story “The most comprehensive piece I’ve ever read on grading.” For the type of reporting and storytelling that unequivocally gets the highest marks, you’ll have to subscribe.

What an urban crack sesh!🫸👊 Innsbruck 🇦🇹 is a hub for competition climbing and it’s also surrounded by very decent crags. ⛰️ I have visited Innsbruck plenty of times for both reasons. But this time I went there with @petewhittaker01, who, along with @tompaulrandall aka @wide_boyz , made crack climbing on concrete cool and fully convinced me it’s the future of crack climbing! 😄
We also had a cool partner in crime! I always pack a proper breakfast and snacks by @mix.it for every climbing trip 👌 So I’m always ready to send it! 😄
Watch the new video on my YouTube channel and send your breakfast with Mixit as well 💪
CZ:
Podívejte se na nové video na mém YouTube kanálu a pošlete pořádnou snídani od Mixitu stejně jako my 💪

Is climbing on concrete the future of crack climbing? 😄 This time I visited Innsbruck 🇦🇹 (Austria) together with @petewhittaker01 from @wide_boyz for its urban concrete lines. The Tivoli Stadion Tirol boasts some old and original lines from @davidlama_official and @jorgverhoeven and we absolutely had to try it 👊
It was very cool climbing, less crack climbing than we thought, and very sketchy protection! 🤔 Concrete is a great kind of material for climbing - it creates great lines; it’s very solid, but doesn’t necessarily create great protection when it is slick ☝️
Cool vision almost 20 years ago from David. We are missing him a lot. It was a cool way to remember how incredible climber he was. 🕊️
Then we went to try a more obscure line on the highway bridge and got an FA.
Watch the new video on my YouTube channel and get some snacks by @mix.it ✌️ Because before any activity, you need to send a proper breakfast 👌
Also, huge thanks to @usrivadelgarda for the cool football training 😅
Enjoy the video by filmmaker @jan.simanek and our AO’s production.

Just a few hours after sending Exodia 9A, I moved to another great crag in Piedmont 🇮🇹. An old, unclimbed project, bolted by @matteo_gambaro in 2012 ✊, was waiting for me.
Watch the first ascent of Murena 9a on my YouTube channel 🤜🤛 It’s an amazing line with special moves, crux featuring a toehook throw, while you risk a potential fall on the roof of the passing car 😅
The only downside is that the rock is not too solid. Let’s see if those tiny crimps stay there...✌ 😅

Before we even had a chance to edit the video about our new gear, Adam had already sent Exodia! 🔥 The down jacket he brought along for the project already has a story to tell.
Huge congratulations once again, Adam, on such an impressive send, and thanks for trusting our gear! 🧗
