Mountains of the Moon From deep within the inner workings of our dear friend @chrisbenchetler ’s brain we participated in a once in a lifetime full immersive art experience, film and book project that tested the most creative humans from skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers, climbers, divers and of course, surfing w/ @rob_machado ! 2018 in a very abbreviated slideshow. Growth, pain, exploration, discovery, happiness, sadness, lessons learned, laughs, friends, travel, and being home. Learning to spend more time with myself to be better for others. These photos are a very brief collection of images that don’t even begin to sum up what this year has meant to me. I’m so grateful for my family, friends, clients I’ve had the fortune to work with and everyone who has supported my career thus far. With so many people looking forward I want to take a minute to look back at this year, finish it strong and move into 2019 with everything we’ve learned along the way. 31 Dec 2018

Epic weekend up at the @coastfilmfestival in Laguna! We got to share our film Kelly + Tahiti on the film stage then head over to the Irvine Bowl for an incredible night of music. This was our first time attending the festival and we loved it! The energy, the vibe, the staff and volunteers were all so kind and welcoming. Can’t wait for next year!! 27 Oct 2026

This Sunday at 10am I'll be sharing some of my favorite moments and the stories behind them at the L'Auberge Del Mar as a part of the @surfdelmarfest ! I'm working on putting together my slideshow to talk about my love of photography, surfing and the making of our book A Life of Waves. Following me at 11am will be a wonderful slideshow by a huge inspiration and incredible human and photographer @jeffdivinephotographer who is releasing his newest book!! Framegrabs from some of my favorite moments while shooting Kelly + Tahiti. The energy of Teahupoo is unlike any other place I've ever felt. It's name translated literally means "Wall of Skulls." I feel like we can all agree that we know when the conditions get heavy, almost all of the surfers who paddle from the beach or jump off the boat whether there is a contest or not know what they're getting themselves into. Kelly thrives in those heavy moments whether there is a colored jersey on or chasing a swell. My approach in documenting those moments are to be present and participating yet somewhat invisible too as to not to interfere in the flow of the day. There's an energy you can feel both in and out of the water. This year was a bit different, with a newborn daughter and Tao recently turning two there was a whole lot more to experience on land vs being in the water all day. My primary focus for shooting this trip was to shoot on my iphone to give up to the minute 5-8 second social media clips which was new to me. I had to upgrade my phone from a 10 to a 17 just to participate! Stills was the second focus and this film being third on the list. Quite a big task for one person and something I was extremely concerned about doing all three to the best of my abilities. Fortunately we had a really great team that helped and both @kellyslater + @kalanimiller trusted me to not only document such a special and personal time, but also kept my diaper changing and Uncle duties top priority too! I'd like to give a big thank you to the team at @outerknown for giving me the creative freedom to document the way we do. Also to @alekparker for working with us to color + edit the film, we've shared many adventures together!! @codyzsherman for creating an original for us to edit to. @kolomona1_ + @raimanaworld for keeping us safe and the morning coffee talks. @battahiti for sharing your beautiful home with us. Chasing new feelings. @kellyslater With the jersey behind him in Tahiti, @kellyslater was back to chasing what’s next, experimenting with new board designs and different fin setups free surfing in Tahiti. That constant evolution is what makes Kelly, Kelly – always moving forward, always drawing new lines. And for @toddglaser, there was no better way to capture it than from underneath it all – a different perspective on the subtle details, movements and feelings. Todd shares: “Shooting surfing underwater, in my opinion, is the most rare and beautiful way to show surfing. There are not a lot of places where the water is clear enough to shoot underwater, and getting to be in a place like Tahiti is extra special. When watching the footage, you always see something new – a fish swimming by, the way Kelly places his hand in the water, how the water flows off the rake of the fins, or the bubbles exploding from a passing tube. A lot of photographers and filmers always shoot above water so they can show the subject’s face, Kelly is an artist himself. He and I have worked so much together he trusts me to capture him in a more abstract and unique way. All the imagery we make is a collaboration of our creative minds, actions and visions together.” Kelly + Tahiti, filmed & directed by @toddglaser, is live now.
