It’s been a fun shooting/editing challenge to create vertical video for clients along with 16:9 this year. Stoked to be working with some great people in 2023 @patagonia @stanley_brand @pendletonwm @outerknown @vuoriclothing @keen @burgerville , now accepting clients for 2024 02 Jan 2024 what splendor rings through me to share in bringing life back to skins, through dedication and attention. Thank you to everyone who slowed down to honor the lives of these animals. A wellspring of gratitude pours out for how they teach us connection, meaning-making and how to stretch and soften through mishap. . : : from the recent animal processing class held alongside Myron, hosted by @cyrus_sutton x @gorgepermaculture : : . 27 Aug 2026 How did we grow up thinking our 💩 is so nasty that it’s completely normal to flush it away through pipes of chlorinated water and then use natural gas to fertilize our food instead of cycling our waste streams? For those who enter, The Turd Temple seeks to revive what was once deemed holy. A place to worship the cycles of nature and our daily contributions 🤩. After properly composting, the poop will be used in the private garden in the back. The beaver stained-glass is featured on the front because beaver eat their own excrement and don’t even need a two stage compost toilet to do it 🏆 This two-stage compost toilet was built into the bottom of a hill so it could be backfilled with aggregate and covered with drain cloth and soil forming a proper sump to bioremediate leachate. Two-stage systems have side by side toilet chambers so one can rest for an entire year letting microbes transition the waste into safe fertilizer. When wood shavings, called duff, are added liberally between deposits and toilet paper is not dropped into the chamber the toilet is nearly odorless. The bottom and front are cemented so urine and leachate are forced under back into the hill for sanitary purposes. Systems like these don’t work in urban areas with high population density which is why land access is so important. But you can look up 5 gallon bucket composting and other enclosed methods for city 💩♻️ 18 Aug 2026 This wattle fence was the last step in a hillside of blackberries cleared by pigs and then goats. It was planted with Kennebec & Elba potatoes, known for their long-term storage qualities. In our climate potatoes like these win the effort vs calories game. With our maritime adjacent shallow frosts, a little mulch allows these to overwinter in ground without needing a root cellar. Tubers have been the long term favorite crop of State evading anarchist societies worldwide seeking to reindigenize after agricultural servitude to States. We are doing a series of skill building workshops this summer: check out link in our bio 12 Jul 2026 We are hosting a few earth skills workshops throughout the summer and early fall in our neighborhood just 30 mins from the Portland Airport: whole animal processing, brain tanning, basketry, open fire cooking, & more. Head to Gorge Permaculture dot com to sign up. 03 Jul 2026 Pine Soda AKA Spruce Beer/Spruce Ale My process: • Harvest young bright-green spruce or fir tips in spring • Roughly 1/2 gallon tips per gallon of water • Simmer half the tips for flavor extraction • Add around 3/4 cup sugar per gallon plus some maple syrup • Let cool • Add remaining fresh tips afterward to preserve wild yeasts and brighter aromatics • Ferment under a breathable lid around 75–80°F • Optional: add a small amount of Champagne yeast to speed fermentation • Bottle once slightly tangy with light bubbling The flavor lands somewhere between Sprite, crème soda, citrus, and vanilla. A few important safety notes because bottle fermentation can absolutely become dangerous: • DO NOT seal active fermentation in thin glass jars or weak bottles • Pressure can build fast and bottles can explode hard enough to cause injury • Swing-top beer bottles or plastic soda bottles are safer than random mason jars • “Burp” bottles daily if actively carbonating • Refrigerate once carbonation is where you want it because cold slows fermentation • If bottles become rock hard, overpressurized, or foam aggressively when opened, release pressure immediately Tree ID matters too: Safe/common choices: • Spruce • Fir • Pine (most species) Avoid: • Cedar • Yew (highly toxic) • Norfolk Island pine • Any tree you cannot confidently identify Not all evergreens are interchangeable. Some are medicinal, some are mildly irritating, and some are poisonous. Also harvest lightly. Spring tips are new growth and overharvesting can stunt young trees. 07 May 2026 @cyrus_sutton’s got one helluva GIVEAWAY goin’ on right now🚨 A decade of building, welding, carving, and learning led the surfer/filmmaker to create a sanctuary that reflects a life shaped by curiosity and craft 🪚🔨🏡 We’d like to introduce you to @gorge.onsen 💚And now, you have a chance to win a two-night stay with your whole crew at the 4 bedroom hand-built homestead retreat in the stunning Pacific Northwest 🌲🌲 All the entry details are below, and be sure to check out the full story at Surfer.com. And thanks for spreading the word 🍀 04 Jan 2026 @isabellucas and I welcomed a new life into the world a couple weeks ago in Byron Bay, Australia. He’s a healthy little guy who enjoys his mama’s milk and naps (typical). Isabel and I met through mutual friends, I spent a good amount of time here from 19 through my twenties. We connected over our shared values and respect for each other’s work. We quickly found ourselves on our way to celebrating a new beautiful life. It’s been an adventure and we are joyfully navigating the challenges of child rearing in our rooted bi-hemispheric realities. Watching Isabel become a mother has been deeply moving. I have enormous respect for her strength, grace, and the care she brings to our son. 22 Dec 2025 Recent portal reverence 🌀 11 Nov 2025 John Peck got tired of riding waves on Earth. He has slipped free of his human body and now rides the cosmic waves full-time. Born a year before the end of World War II, the son of a Navy pilot, he made his way from Texas to San Diego, where he caught his first waves at fifteen, then onward to Waikiki. By his mid-twenties, he stood among the best surfers on the planet and was one of the early pioneers at Pipeline. John worked hard to overcome his desire to be seen in his ability to dance with nature and prevail, and use his intensity to shake people out of their trauma and complacency to see the world with eyes of joy. Cheers to the grand eternal tube we call time: thanks for your grin and always striving toward impeccable service.
