Ken Diaz’s life could be its own Hollywood story — or better yet, a Chicano epic. Born in East L.A. and raised in Pico Rivera, the shy, dyslexic kid with an artistic gift grew up abused at home and ridiculed at school. “I just came out with this resolve that I was gonna accomplish big things in my life,” he says. That promise led to a 45-year Hollywood career with more than 80 credits as a makeup artist, etching his legacy in Chicano films like 1981’s “Zoot Suit,” 1992’s “American Me,” and 1993’s “Blood In, Blood Out.” Now he’s nominated for his third Academy Award for his role as makeup department head on Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” becoming the most nominated Latino in the category since its establishment in 1982. 🎥 @brendabroadcast 10 Mar 2026
