If there's one thing that truly connects us all, it’s our one and only home, planet earth.
I’m so ambivalent about earth day, earth month, and really all of these marketing months.. Pride, women’s history, black history and many more… seeing all the posts on social media always feels performative.
I know that so many people fought hard for recognition, and that these official days/months *do* help raise awareness and money for programs that promote positive change. But it feels that many spend more time and resources on posting than actually doing something about these issues.
Constantly posting on social media requires a lot of time and energy, or a lot of money. I’d rather spend these valuable resources on doing the work. Working hard every day to figure out ways to do better for the planet. Trying to live every day in awareness. Respecting and supporting people, no matter where they came from, their gender identity, sexual orientation, color of their skin, culture, religion (or lack thereof).
Every day, I think about the world I’m building for my daughters. What am I leaving behind for them and their generation to deal with?
I’ll continue dedicating everything I have to figuring out how to have a positive impact on this world, to building bridges, promoting true sustainability and peace, and creating better systems that will actually give them a chance at a thriving future. Maybe one day we won’t need an earth day, but in the meantime…

Last night’s clothing swap is what responsible donating actually looks like.
When you swap, your clothes stay in your community, get re-worn, and actually get used. The alternative is dropping them at big thrift stores or in random bins…where unfortunately, many items still end up exported or in landfill.
This is circular fashion in action! Thank you for showing up, swapping, and choosing better 💚

@sharona925 aka @purplewaves.nyc is truly a breath of fresh air — the kind of person we wish to encounter more of in this world. She is an incredible woman with a blessed vision and a level of dedication that is nothing short of inspiring. Her commitment to her mission is something one can only admire.
She is willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how challenging, to lead meaningful change — even when it’s not easy to sustain, especially in a city as demanding and commercially driven as New York. But then again, this is New York — the place where dreams are meant to come true.
As she says: “We must help build the world we want to leave behind.” and we are beyond wanna join that ride.

WE’RE BACK!
We missed you all so much and are so excited to finally welcome you back.
These past few weeks have been a lot to navigate, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who called, texted, DM’d, checked in, and patiently waited for updates. Your support truly means the world to us.
This unexpected pause also gave us a chance to refocus on the deeper purpose behind Purple Waves:
To help build the world we want to leave behind.
To support local farmers and makers.
To create space for community.
To build a business that is truly sustainable.
Purple Waves is reopening with a refreshed space and renewed focus.
Going forward, we are operating as a local, sustainability-driven market and intimate event and community space.
What that means:
• A curated market featuring regional farmers and makers
• Coffee, pastries, wine, and beer
• Outdoor terrace and limited indoor seating
• Bring-your-own reusable cups for takeout drinks
• An intimate space for gatherings, workshops, pop-ups, and community events.
Our new hours:
Wednesday–Monday, 11am–7pm.
Closed Tuesdays.
