Photos by @photospice I’m incredibly grateful that Leica chose to feature my ongoing essay, Fragments of America, on their blog. It means a great deal to have this long-term body of work recognized. The photographs they selected were all made with my Leica Q2 and Q3—cameras that have quietly accompanied me through countless moments across this journey. Thank you, Leica, for believing in this work and for sharing it with your community. I’m truly grateful. Story link in my bio @photospice @leicauk @leica_camera @leicacamerausa “What are you focusing on in particular when photographing? I focus on responding directly to what’s in front of me and finding moments with visual density and layering. I look for gestures, relationships, and situations where light, timing and movement come together, and I trust my instinct to make the image when it feels right. I’m drawn to images that feel complex and active, where multiple elements are happening at once and the viewer can continue discovering details over time. For me, it’s less about applying a fixed style in advance and more about recognizing when a situation naturally has that quality and working with it in the moment.” #barbaradavidson #photography #leica #leicaphoto #usa @leicasociety @leicagalleryla @leica_fotografie_international 929 likes · 83 comments · 23 Jul 2026 So proud to be part of this incredible team of @reuters photojournalists, honored today as finalists in the @pulitzerprizes Spot News Photography category. It’s an honor to contribute to work that documents, in real time, the impact of ICE policies on people across the country—work that bears witness to how these policies are experienced by those directly affected. Grateful to be part of a team committed to this kind of reporting. Congratulations to everyone involved, especially my fellow photographers for their powerful storytelling - and thank you to all who made this recognition possible… especially @corinne.perkins ♥️ & @c_helgren - A huge thank you to the judges for honoring our work. The story, written by the incredible investigative reporter Robert Lopez, shines a light on California farmworkers exposed to pesticides as they work to harvest the nation’s fruits and vegetables. The final photograph is a lineup of automated pesticide-spraying machines. A terrifying sight, and a sobering reminder of what farmworkers are exposed to every day. #photoftheday #california #photographer #photojournalism 30 Oct 2026 Photos by @photospice #barbaradavidson for @lemondefr In the final installment of Arnaud Leparmentier’s Le Monde series exploring America along Route 66, Santa Monica becomes a backdrop for a story about Hollywood’s uncertain future, the impact of AI and the erosion of the American dream. Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman discusses the challenges facing the city’s entertainment industry and her vision for bringing jobs and productions back to LA. 1-5) Tourists gather at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California, where Route 66 traditionally ends at the Pacific Ocean. Visitors take photographs, stroll along the pier and enjoy the ocean views at the iconic coastal destination. 6-8) Los Angeles City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman speaks at a rally where she unveiled her first 100-day plan, including reforms to homelessness response, faster housing permits, improved street maintenance and expanded public safety services. 9) Beachgoers cool off in the Pacific Ocean at Santa Monica Beach during a Southern California heat wave. Santa Monica, the historic endpoint of Route 66, symbolizes the American dream as Hollywood faces an uncertain future shaped by artificial intelligence and new technologies. Tourists visit the famous Santa Monica Pier. 10-11) Tourists photograph one another with the iconic Hollywood Sign in the background at Lake Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, a symbol of the city’s promise of fame and opportunity as artificial intelligence reshapes the entertainment industry. 257 likes · 10 comments · 27 Oct 2026 Photos by @photospice #barbaradavidson for @lemondefr I recently photographed a series by reporter Arnaud Leparmentier for Le Monde ahead of the U.S. midterm elections This section examines how Trump’s immigration raids are terrorizing migrant farmworkers in Bakersfield and disrupting California’s agricultural industry, threatening the people who harvest America’s food. 1x2) The California City Detention Facility, operated by CoreCivic under contract with ICE, is located in the remote Mojave Desert in Kern County, California. 3) Gaspar Hernandez, a farmworker since 1983, inspects freshly picked table grapes in a vineyard in Delano, Kern County, California. 4x5) Farmworkers load packaged table grapes onto a truck in Delano, Kern County, California. 6) Green cabins at Weedpatch Camp, officially Arvin Farm Labor Center #26, provide seasonal housing for migrant farmworkers and their families in Kern County, California. 7) Downtown Bakersfield, the Kern County seat and hub for agriculture and oil production, is seen at sunset on October 6, 2026. 8x9) People gather at Mi Mexico restaurant in Bakersfield, California, to watch a televised debate on October 6, 2026, between Republican incumbent David Valadao (left) and Democratic challenger Randy Villegas in the race for California’s 22nd Congressional District. The debate addressed the economy, immigration and water use in the Central Valley. 10) A mural honoring Bakersfield’s country music legends stands beside a billboard advertising an upcoming gun show in downtown Bakersfield, California, on October 6, 2026. 11) Oil pumps operate at the Kern River Oil Field north of Bakersfield, California, #california #usa #photojournalism 236 likes · 6 comments · 25 Oct 2026 I 🫶🏻 L.A. Photo by @photospice #barbaradavidson #iphone #losangeles #photography #iphone 87 likes · 4 comments · 02 Oct 2026 Photo by @photospice #barbaradavidson for @latimes & @capitalandmainnews Story by Robert Lopez : California grows an enormous amount of the food we eat, but the farmworkers who pick it are often exposed to dangerous pesticides with too little protection or accountability. A new investigation by the Los Angeles Times and Capital & Main found that pesticide enforcement varies widely across the state. At La Huerta de Cantua Creek, a community farm in Fresno County, workers grow food without pesticides — a stark contrast to the fields where many work for a living. Automatic pesticide spraying trucks line up on a farm road. Paola Lopez, a San Joaquin Valley farmworker, was sprayed with pesticides while working in a raisin field and became seriously ill. Investigators found five pesticide safety violations in her case. Please see the story in today’s LATimes and Capital and Main. #photojournalism #photography #farmworkers #california 203 likes · 14 comments · 25 Sep 2026 Fresno County, Sept. 04, 2026 photo by @photospice #california #barbaradavidson #photography 122 likes · 1 comments · 04 Sep 2026 Photos by @photospice, Kolkata, India, 2018. I’m honored to have my work shown @visapourlimage at their 2026 photojournalism festival. I love this gathering so much, and I’m thrilled that this essay, “Threads of Labor,” (a small sampling here) will be featured as one of the nightly showings. A huge thank you to Jean-Francçois Leroy and @leludelphine ♥️♥️♥️ “In West Bengal, India, jute mills still operate much as they have for generations. Men and women work long hours amid the roar of century-old machinery, hauling heavy bundles of raw jute as dust fills the air. The work is grueling and often dangerous, yet it sustains families and entire communities. While jute is a natural, biodegradable fiber, its production comes with environmental costs, from heavy water and energy use to pollution from processing. Amid the noise, dust, and exhaustion is a story of resilience—of an age-old industry where every thread carries the weight of labor, livelihood, and environmental consequence.” #India #Jute #Photography #barbaradavidson 823 likes · 49 comments · 11 Aug 2026 Beautiful afternoon on #SkidRow today where everyones trying to stay cool. @photospice #barbaradavidson #losangeles #summer #DTLA 87 likes · 2 comments · 08 Aug 2026 A super huge thank you to @losangelesfiredepartment and @lafdairops for putting out the #ElysianHeightsPark fire today - I was out on a dog walk and witnessed their greatness.
