That's a wrap for this summer of outdoor action for our Renew Crew! Before we move our work indoors at our recreation centers, we're celebrating with a wrap-up of some of the amazing work this Crew has been doing to maintain public spaces across the city. Whether it's resurfacing basketball courts, repainting blacktop games, renewing plantings, or replacing flooring, the Renew Crew has been working hard across the five boroughs to keep our parks in shape! Every fall, our NYC Parks plumbers have a big job. Working in small groups, our plumbers have to travel from site to site to turn off nearly all of our outdoor water fountains in the city. While our fountains provide beautiful decoration, cooling sprays, and sustaining clean water during the summer, if they are not turned off in the winter, pipes will crack and burst, and our parks will flood. Family camping has never been more iconic! For the first time, we brought Rangers together from all five boroughs for a free one-night only experience under the Unisphere! ⭐ From pitching tents and starting a fire from scratch to playing games and sharing stories around the campfire, New Yorkers of all ages had the chance to make memories under the stars. Our family camping program has ended for the year, but join us next year for the chance to have the same special experience at a park or landmark location! And remember—leave the camping to the Rangers! Don’t set up camp or set fires in New York City parks on your own. 20 Oct 2026

It’s not every day a fruit goes viral, but during their short ripe season, pawpaws are all the rage here at EL Garden in Brooklyn! Though their time on our plates is over, we went down to Bushwick to get the scoop on this uniquely rebellious sweet tropical tasting fruit. Want to try one for yourself? Follow @elgarden.bushwick for the latest on next year’s pawpaw party! 🌳 With support from @greenthumbnyc , community gardens like this give NYers the opportunity to steward the natural world, access organically grown produce, and build bonds in their backyards. Fort Totten is an historic site tucked along Totten Avenue in the most Northeastern tip of Queens. It was a former Civil War era military fort that now belongs to the Parks Department, NYC Fire Department, and the Historic House Trust. NYC Parks is pleased to open nearly 30 sites for this year's Open House New York Weekend. This year, Open House New York Weekend takes place from October 16-18, and many sites, including Fort Totten, are open for drop-in visitors.
