Who said science experiments with kitchen appliances are cheesy? This one explains why your microwave oven has that spinning tray. @alex.dainis explains the science behind microwaves and shows you how you can use cheese to see the length of a wave!  🧀 #Microwaves #ScienceExperiment #WaveLength 22 Jul 2023 Jane Goodall (@JaneGoodallInst) discusses some of the issues that our planet faces as well as the importance of hope in approaching the answers.   #JaneGoodall #Advice #ReasonsForHope 26 Jan 2024 How does Newton’s Cradle work? Museum Educator Eric demonstrates how momentum will always stay the same within a closed system. #Physics #ScienceExperiments #Momentum #STEM 26 May 2024 The Northern Taurid meteor shower is here! 🌠 Active from October 20th to December 10th, this meteor shower peaks overnight November 11th to 12th. For the best view of the Northern Taurids, head outside and look up around midnight. #MeteorShower #SkyWatch #Astronomy #Space #Science 06 Nov 2026 What does it look like when Moon scientists watch discovery happen in real time? 🌕 At SciCom Summit at the Museum of Science, @nasa Strategic Communications Lead Rachel Barry shared the story behind her viral photos of the lunar science team. After two years of sitting in on their meetings, simulations, and fieldwork, Barry set out to help audiences get to know the people behind the science and see their excitement as it happened. #SciComSummit #NASA #Space #Artemis #Moon 05 Nov 2026 Have you been to any of our events this fall? If not, now is your chance! 🚲 @codyrigsby takes on the science of wellness, from motivation and mindset to self-care and building healthier, more joyful lives. 🪐 How did life learn to think, sense, and move through the world? Beyond the Screen with @novapbs: Evolution is a family-friendly event exploring the science behind two episodes of NOVA’s new Evolution series. 🎶 @vivoperformingarts brings a dancer and a robot arm together to showcase push and pull between humanity and our creations in Huang Yi & KUKA 🎟️ Become a member to get pre-sale today. Public tickets on sale November 5. Your next great discovery happens in the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common. 05 Nov 2026 @MarkRober and @ScienceBob teamed up for one MASSIVE chemical reaction at the Museum of Science! 🐘🧪 During Mark’s event at the Museum, the duo created a spectacular eruption of bright green foam with an Elephant Toothpaste experiment! Here's the science behind it: A catalyst speeds up the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas. Dish soap traps the rapidly released oxygen in thousands of tiny bubbles, creating an enormous burst of colorful foam! #MarkRober #ScienceBob #Experiment #Chemistry #Science 04 Nov 2026 “You have to have a streak of weird in you.” @emily.the.engineer explains why goofy builds like her EpiPen launcher matter. The silly side pulls people in, and then gets people asking, “How do I start 3D printing? How do I start welding?” #scicomsummit #science #stem #engineering 04 Nov 2026 There’s a whole microscopic world behind every loaf of sourdough bread! 🍞🔬 Our friend Chloé Savard, also known as @tardibabe, takes us under the microscope to explore the science of sourdough. Those large, colorful shapes are tiny grains of wheat starch. Even smaller living things, like yeast and bacteria, help make sourdough possible! Sourdough starts with a mixture of flour and water called a starter. Over time, yeast and bacteria grow in the mixture. Together, they help turn simple ingredients into delicious bread through a process called fermentation. Here’s how it works! Enzymes in the flour break starch into smaller sugars. Yeast feeds on these sugars and releases a gas called carbon dioxide. This gas forms bubbles in the dough, making the bread rise. Meanwhile, bacteria make acids that give sourdough its tangy flavor. These acids also help slow the growth of some germs that can spoil bread. And here’s something cool: sourdough starters can have different kinds of yeast and bacteria! The flour, temperature, amount of water, and how often a starter is fed can all affect which microbes grow. These tiny differences can change how the bread tastes and how quickly it rises. Humans were making flatbread at least 14,400 years ago, and we’re still learning about the science behind it today! Who knew so much science went into a single slice of bread? 🍞 #Microscope #Bread #Science #Microscopic #Microscopy 03 Nov 2026 Where did the idea of Moon Joy come from?    @NASA’s Strategic Communications Lead Rachel Barry discusses how “Moon Joy” was coined by Angela Garcia, one of the lunar science officers in mission control after hearing the @nasaartemis crew get excited about their first look at the moon. 02 Nov 2026 What is the future of science communication? #SciComSummit is meant to start a community, not just end a conference day. We're wrapping up the day with a roundtable to discuss how creators, scientists, and institutions can work together to inspire a love of science in everyone. 02 Nov 2026 We kicked off the inaugural #SCICOMSummit with @nasaartemis social strategy, how a science story gets made with @minute_earth, and a discussion on purpose-driven science communication. 02 Nov 2026
