Puccini’s ultimate thriller returns to the Metropolitan Opera! 🎭✨
David McVicar’s grand production of Tosca opens November 1, 2026, featuring world-class casts and conductors—including Oksana Lyniv, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Saioa Hernández, SeokJong Baek, Piotr Beczała, and Sondra Radvanovsky—running all the way through May 2027.

Featured here are our concertmaster @wlajuve and double bassist @gantzerandrew performing an excerpt from Piazzola’s “Fünf Tango” as we start off this inaugural Festival Orchestra Up Close Series at the Atrium. For this “Orchestra in Miniature” performance, you can enjoy a fun combination of duo performances, which will also include members @shmulikviola and @akimbo40 (more previews soon!)

It’s always a big deal when the @berlinphil comes to town, but an even bigger deal when we meet former colleagues who are now in the Berlin Philharmonic, like principal Flute Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson, pictured here with Met Harpist Mariko Anraku @marikoanraku and former Met principal Horn Joe Anderer @joeanderer.
It’s with some sadness - and with a great deal of pride - to see former Met Orchestra musicians at Carnegie Hall performing in orchestras such as the Boston Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Cleveland. Cincinnati, Seattle, Kansas…and the list goes on and on.
Hearing how the great soloists on stage phrase some of the most beautiful repertoire, and with great leadership on the podium, it leads us to create some of the most sought- after musicians around the world.
But for the vast majority of the musicians of the Met Orchestra, there’s no better place to be than at the Met!

It takes a lot of cymbals and implements to play Puccini well! Each moment is a different color, expression or emotion. I’m loving my new @zildjiancompany K Klassisch cymbals. The crashes have a beautiful spread and shimmer, but still project well, and have plenty of attack if and when I need it. Also in the mix are a couple of K Constantinoples and an old, wispy 15” A Zildjian for Mimi’s last breath. #laboheme @metopera @metorchestra

On my list of Things I Never Thought I Would Get to Do is see a show at the Metropolitan Opera. Not only was Macbeth stunning in every way:
-I got a sneak peek backstage with @musicians_of_ny where we toured the orchestra pit, the library where all the music sheets 🎼 are stored, the wings where the stage managers of @iatselocalone get ready for the show
-then enjoyed the performance 🎭 alongside @metopera General Manager Peter Gelb, AFM Local 802 President @danpoint, @weareagma National Executive Director Jeffrey Boyd, and my Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Barnes Lord.
-and adding to surreal moments of my life, exchanged stories of moving from LA to NYC with none other than @gustavodudamel. 🤩

As I make my Metropolitan Opera debut tonight, I find myself reflecting on all that this moment means to me.
I feel immense gratitude for the journey that has brought me here, for the help of my parents bringing me to music, and the people who believed in me along the way, for the music, culture and experiences that have shaped who I am as an artist.
To stand on this stage as a Spanish and Hispanic conductor makes the moment even more meaningful. I carry with me where I come from, those who opened doors before me, and the hope that moments like this can inspire and help open the way for the next generation.
Tonight, I’ll take the podium carrying all of this with me, with a full heart, grateful for everything that has brought me here and hoping to honor it all through the music we make together.

We were thrilled to welcome Mayor Mamdani and his team to the Met and even more excited about his “Opera for All” initiative and vision for bringing opera to underserved communities.
Opera for All, is the new ticketing initiative that will offer 70,000 free tickets to underserved New Yorkers across the five boroughs this season. The new ticketing program helps demonstrate why the Met is one of New York’s invaluable cultural institutions.
The ticket program will give away 70,000 Met seats this season and continue indefinitely.
The tickets will be distributed by lottery on the Met app, and promoted with various city agencies, including the Housing Authority, the New York Public Library and New York City Public Schools.
