No Prisoner Be - FULL MUSIC VIDEO Stream the full record “Emily — No Prisoner Be” out everywhere now✨ Emily Dickinson lived a solitary, reclusive life in a tiny room in Amherst, Massachusetts, writing poems that both scaled the heights into the cosmos and penetrated the infinite crevices of the human heart. Out of her nearly 2000 poems, our chosen title track is a poem that contains only 9 words and four dashes: No prisoner be— Where Liberty— Himself—abide with Thee— From our first workshop nearly 2 years ago, these inspiring words paired with Kevin Puts’ rousing music, rang immediately true to each of us. We knew, then and there, it was a message we wanted - we needed - to put into the world with joyful abandon, for every person, from every walk of life, to remember where true Liberty lies. May this album - and this call to Liberty - ring out into the world - to every neighborhood, every community, every corner and every mountaintop. The world has lost a legend, an icon, and one of the great humans to ever human. Jimmy Madison came on board our Songplay adventure with his characteristic heart-wide-open embrace of “Sure, why not?”, and he elevated every single moment of our experience. Two stories stand out: On our first tour he couldn’t get over the nice hotels and the way the audience received us. This legend who had played for ALL the greats of jazz and funk (you name them, he kept their beat) stopped me backstage in shock, “Joyce, but they brought ME flowers!! Why did they do that?” At every step of our project, he met each moment as a little kid stupefied at how lucky he was to make music and travel the world. The second moment I didn’t witness personally, but was told to me by @flo_rivington, our fearless tour leader. In Shanghai this past June, Jimmy was a bit tired and was thinking of not coming to the CD signing. He told Flo, “I think I’ll skip tonight - they are only here for Joyce, anyway.” But Flo encouraged him, “No, Jimmy! You’re a part of the album - you should be there!” and Flo walked him out. Just as he stepped into the lobby a young woman went right up to him: “Are you Jimmy Madison? I’m a huge fan!” And she pulled out an old album he had played on for him to sign. 🥹 Jimmy told THE BEST stories, showed up with his WHOLE self in every single moment and made us all the better for knowing him. I don’t know that a human has ever human-ed better than him. How he’ll be missed, but damn am I glad he said yes to us.
