Leather, lichen, merino wool jersey, pine… Every weave begins with an encounter with nature 🌿 For me, walking in nature is where intuition and creative ideas arrive. Working with all the senses is an immense source of inspiration: along the trail I gather natural samples, then back in the studio I rework those sensations and interpret them through weaving. A coat and trousers that started as waste 🐺♻️ These are the selvedges (cimose) — the leftover edges cut away during industrial weaving of Merino wool fabric. Discarded by the mill, gathered here, and hand-knitted into a full garment: dense, wild, alive with texture. 20 ——— Leonardo Martines Leonardo Martines is an Italian Surface and Textile Designer based in Florence. His research explores the expressive potential of textures — the dialogue between micro and macro structures through diverse yarns and fiber manipulations - developing a visual language that intertwines artistic exploration and sustainability. Rooted in the belief that those who work with their hands have a duty to rework what society considers waste, he gathers buttons, leather and fabric scraps, damaged eyelets, and other materials from ateliers across Florence, transforming them into sculptural pieces that push the boundaries of textiles and reflect on material memory as a central element of tactile and perceptual experience. 14 Aug 2026
