We just launched a floating wetland in Bristol, that’s going to help clean the river and bring wildlife back home! It’s one of the largest of its kind in the UK, and I helped build it, alongside the wonderful people at Planet Wild, the WWT, and engineers at Biomatrix. Above water, a layered planting layout provides an oasis for pollinators and a safe haven for nesting birds. But the real magic happens down below, where the roots grow super deep, providing shelter for marine fish, regulating the water temperature and absorbing urban pollution from the river. We anchored it next to the SS Great Britain, right opposite another floating wetland that was planted just two years ago. That one’s already grown into more than 6,000 plants and 24 trees, attracting insects, nesting birds, and it even has its own otter holt, an actual otter house floating in a working harbour. And this is exactly what ours will become. Bristol used to be wetland, before it was drained and covered in concrete, so bringing spaces back like this can allow nature to return where it thrived many years ago, whilst giving communities access to nature right in the heart of the city! #goodnews #wetlands #bristol 18 Sep 2026 Would you love to see these in your city? #goodnews #greendesign #airpollution #sustainableliving #sustainability #urbandesign 17 Jul 2023 What they did with the trees is really cool! #goodnews #architecture #india #greenbuilding #sustainability #sustainableliving 19 Jun 2023 Here’s some good news from the Netherlands you might have missed! We start with @groasis whose Waterboxx grows trees where almost nothing can. Invented by Pieter Hoff and continued by his son Wout, you sit it around a sapling, and it catches rain and dew from the air. It drips that water to the roots, sending them deep to find their own. With no pumps, no irrigation and 90% less water needed, more than 90% of the trees survive in 60 countries! Next in Rotterdam, @paebbl is turning CO2 into stone. They capture CO2 from industry and mix it with a crushed volcanic rock called olivine, doing in an hour what nature takes centuries to do. The result is a carbon-storing powder that replaces some of the cement in concrete, locking that carbon away permanently. Then at UMC Utrecht @utrechtuniversity I watched a machine printing living human tissue. Paulina and her colleagues print tiny pieces of human organs, then test new medicines on them. Because it’s real human tissue, the results are closer to what happens inside our bodies and it could be a huge step towards ending animal testing. All three are part of #NewDutch, a movement of innovators across the @netherlands working on the world’s biggest challenges. The country that used windmills to reshape its landscape is now finding inventive ways to create a better future! Which country should I visit next? #goodnews #solutions #sustainability 05 Nov 2026 This lady in Leeds is giving leftover paint a second life! See most thrown-away paint gets burned as hazardous waste or tipped down drains, polluting rivers and wildlife. But Seagulls Reuse stops that from happening. They’ve set up paint banks at all local waste sites where people can donate paint they don’t need anymore. The team then collects them, sorts them into good or bad paints, and mixes used tins to create full ones, giving them a second life. You can even bring a sample color and they will match it by blending different donated paints together Every year, Seagulls save around 350,000 litres of paint from going to landfill or being burned, enough to fill six swimming pools. But that doesn’t paint the full picture of the work they do. Seagulls also gives jobs and training to people who often struggle to find work, whilst also keeping the paint prices intentionally low to make them accessible for the local community. Would you like somewhere like this near you? #goodnews #reuse #zerowaste 02 Nov 2026 Stop doomscrolling! Here’s some good news stories from October you might have missed! #goodnews #conservation #sustainability 30 Oct 2026 One of Scotland’s most precious places for nature has just been saved from destruction! Plans for a golf course have been refused on Coul Links, a stretch of wild Highland sand dunes. And these aren’t just any dunes. They’re home to rare butterflies, wintering birds, and a tiny insect that lives nowhere else on Earth. A golf course would have been built right on top of them. And once these dunes are gone, they’re gone for good. But for years, conservation groups and locals fought back in a big collaborative effort. The Save Coul Links Conservation Coalition was formed by Buglife, Butterfly Conservation Scotland, Marine Conservation Society, National Trust for Scotland, Plantlife, RSPB Scotland and the Scottish Wildlife Trust. And now, the Scottish gov has agreed, refusing the plans for good. It’s actually the second time this place has been saved from the exact same fate. Proof that when people stand up for the wild places they love, nature can win! #goodnews #nature #conservation 28 Oct 2026 This is the world’s first pushchair designed for parents in wheelchairs! See, for a lot of wheelchair users, something like taking your child to the park on your own is almost impossible, as you can’t push a pushchair and wheel yourself at the same time. So a charity in the UK called Designability created a solution. They worked closely with disabled parents and came up with a design that replaces the back wheels and brakes of an ordinary pushchair, so it can attach straight to a wheelchair. Parents can steer it, brake it, and push it, all while wheeling themselves. And what’s clever is that adding this accessibility only costs only a few pounds more. It’s already passed full safety testing, with help from the pushchair company Mamas and Papas, and it’s been trialled by families across the UK. In fact, it’s the most requested product in the charity’s 50-year history. Now they’re working on making it available for everyone, so every parent can share more beautiful moments with their children! Would you like to see more support for innovations like this? #goodnews #accessibility #wheelchair 26 Oct 2026 Scientists at Stanford just accidentally discovered something crazy! A way to bring dying, bleached coral back to life. It started by accident, when two bits of coral fell against each other in a lab tank. One was healthy, one was bleached and dying. But where they touched, the colour came back. So researchers Danny Collins and Steve Palumbi, from Stanford’s Doerr School of Sustainability, tested it properly. They placed bleached coral against a healthy one from the same colony, and the two fused together. The healthy coral then fed its life-giving algae straight into its dying neighbour. Within seven weeks, it had fully recovered! It’s early days, and it only works with genetically identical corals for now. But with reefs vanishing around the world, it’s a brilliant glimmer of hope of bringing coral reefs back to life! #goodnews #coral #ocean 19 Oct 2026 Stop doomscrolling here’s some good news to get you through October! 16 Oct 2026 This is a computer mouse for your tongue! It’s called the MouthPad developed by Augmental, and it’s giving people who can’t use their hands a way to control a phone, a tablet, or a computer. It was built in San Francisco by an engineer called Tomas Vega, who set out to make technology more accessible, especially for those living with quadriplegia. Each one is custom made to fit snugly over the upper teeth. A tiny pressure-sensitive trackpad sits against the roof of the mouth, and the user moves the cursor with their tongue. A tilt of the head moves around the screen, and a press of the tongue acts as a click. There’s even a menu that pops up with a single gesture, turning something like copy and paste into one simple move. And the best part is that no surgery is needed. Tech like this usually means a brain implant. This just sits in your mouth, and comes out whenever you like. For the people using it, that changes everything. One user started university with the device, and is now finishing a degree in mathematics. Another said it freed him from a computer setup built around his wheelchair, so he can now work from the comfort of his bed. Would you like to see more support for devices like this? #goodnews #technology #accessibility 12 Oct 2026 Take a break from doomscrolling with some good news you might have missed! #goodnews #sustainability #conservation 09 Oct 2026
