22 chemotherapy infusions. One pregnancy. One birth. A million blow draws. Six months later…
I did it. I finished my neoadjuvant chemotherapy!! It feels like half of my life has been spent in that infusion chair - but I am so grateful to have the chance to ring that bell because I know not every cancer patient does. Endlessly grateful to modern medicine and for my care team for holding me through this chapter.

My son is 13 weeks old. We’re out of the newborn phase now, and I still don’t know if that happened fast or slow.
I spent most of it surviving — leaning on family, tending to myself more than him. Not the newborn phase I pictured.
With my daughter, I didn’t get to picture anything. Perinatal anxiety, depression, OCD, birth PTSD — I white-knuckled through her first year and called it motherhood.
Three years and a lot of healing later, I finally believed I could do this. I was ready for the slow mornings. The snuggles. The version of newborn I never got.
Cancer took that too. It ended my childbearing and it ended the last “first” I’ll ever have. My camera roll has more hospital photos than baby ones. Some days I sleep more than he does. He has more hair than I do.
I hope the loss softens someday. Today, exiting my last newborn phase, it doesn’t.

Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate against anyone.

Building a boob, flat-girl edition.
This is the combo that actually makes a top fill in again: the Monica bra holds the shape, and the cooling triangle form gives it the shape. No wire digging in, no shiny silicone look, no guessing if it will stay put.
The bra is the base — soft, full coverage, pockets for the form. The form is the volume — light, cooling against skin, and it sits naturally under a shirt, not like a costume piece.

Clinical trials aren’t just about advancing medicine for future generations. For cancer patients today, they can mean more treatment options, more time, and more hope. 🤍
With oncology accounting for roughly 40% of global clinical trial activity, innovation is moving quickly. But none of it happens without patients participating in research.
Clinical trials aren’t necessarily a last resort. Every cancer patient deserves to understand their options.
🔬 Learn more at ClinicalTrials.gov or ask your oncologist!
If you’ve been in a clinical trial, what would you share with other patients?

Things I would tell myself at the start of all this.
I was 30 years old and 30 weeks pregnant when I was told I had triple-negative breast cancer. No family history, no genetic mutation — chemo, surgery, and months of treatment that stole time from my babies.
I would tell her: you don’t have to hide this away to make it easier to look at. Grieve the time it takes, take the help when it’s offered, and don’t let the way your body changes convince you you’ve disappeared. You’re still gorgeous, you’re still here, and you’re still allowed to go out and live your life.
🤍
You will thank yourself every day for not dismissing what felt different.
And I must be a real catch because I have the greatest friends & hottest husband despite my lewks
Because “mommy” is defined by back rubs in the dark, school lunches with their favorite treat, a hug at school drop off, midnight feedings and contact naps…the list goes on
And he will be gigantic despite being 5 weeks adjusted!
I will forever be so grateful for the special souls the cancer community has shown me
Freezing your toes and fingers off every week pays off to avoid neuropathy
And it will be the most incredible outpouring of love and support you experience in this lifetime
Because “in sickness and health” can hit you at the ripe age of 30 - and you’ll be beyond grateful you chose the most amazing man
And god forbid you ever have to go anything as hard as this again.
Comment below: what you would tell yourself if you could go back in time?

Getting dressed and getting ready still doesn’t feel like it used to — my hair is growing back at a length I don’t know how to style, my brows are uneven, and I don’t have the lashes I used to.
These are the Sephora sale picks that actually work for me right now, post-chemo: gentle on sensitive skin, easy to use, and they help me feel like myself again.
Comment SALE and I’ll DM you my full list with links. 💄

Listen to Part 2 of Isabel O'Gara's story on today's Real Pink. Isabel was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant and is now finishing treatment and preparing for a mastectomy. She's speaking out about listening to your body during pregnancy and postpartum, pushing back when something feels wrong and why she is using her voice to advocate for legislation that could help other families. Not going to lie — getting dressed up hasn’t been much fun for me lately. What used to be something I looked forward to — doing my hair, my makeup, putting together a cute outfit — has become something I dread, because every step reminds me of how much control I’ve lost over my body.
While my hair is growing back, it isn’t a length I know how to style yet. My usual makeup routine doesn’t work when you’re lacking eyelashes and dealing with uneven eyebrow regrowth. My clothes are too big from losing so much weight. My tops don’t fill in the way they used to, because I don’t have breasts.
Multiple times during this get-ready, I wanted to stop filming because it was making me more depressed than excited to go out to dinner. But I try to remind myself that this state is temporary. I’m still fucking gorgeous with my pixie cut and flat chest — and most importantly, I’m still alive and able to go out to dinner.
This next chapter of adjuvant therapy won’t be an easy one. I’m dreading another six months of treatment, especially because there isn’t a clear end goal with adjuvant treatment. Just the hope and prayer that those additional six months keep the cancer away for good.
If getting dressed has ever felt like this for you — after treatment, after a baby, after your body changed in any way — tell me in the comments: what’s the one thing that helped you feel like yourself again? Or just drop a 🤍 if you get it.

There’s a weight to this life that doesn’t show up on camera.
It’s trying to be a present mom for two little kids — really present, not just in the room but with them — while your mind is also juggling doctor’s appointments, preparing for your next round of chemo, and healing from surgery all at once.
It’s loving every second with them and still feeling split in two. One half is here, making snacks and reading bedtime stories. The other half is bracing for the next appointment, the next side effect, the next thing your body has to get through.
Being a mom with chemo means having two full-time jobs. And the hardest part isn’t either job on its own. It’s doing both at the same time, and refusing to let either one steal you from the other. 🤍

Sometimes I look at the girl in old photos and I don’t recognize her. Not just because of how I look now — because of how she lived. She moved through the world without cancer in the back of her mind. No scan anxiety. No counting down to the next appointment. No grief sitting quietly next to every happy moment.
There is a specific innocence to a life not yet plagued by cancer, and I miss her. I miss the freedom of not knowing.
But I’m not hiding what came after her, either. They expected me to disappear behind cancer. I put it center stage instead — because when I was diagnosed, I needed to see someone who looked like me: pregnant, scared, still laughing, still here.
If you’re in the “during” right now — you’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing the hardest thing. And even if you don’t recognize who you were before, you’re still you. 🤍
