The short film artfully tells the story of making the 1763 EP, and working with friends + collaborators to build community in the Bay Area around music, family dynamics and the shifting industry tides. After a long season of quiet and rest, making space for healing, motherhood, and the beautiful, challenging work of becoming a full-time educator, I’ve slowly been finding my way back to music. It feels good to return to this part of myself, not as the person I was before, but as someone who has grown, changed, and found new meaning in the things I love.
I’m incredibly honored to be singing in @kevchoice ‘s Orchestra Liberation Choir, under the direction of the brilliant @cavamenzies.
I don’t think I’ve ever been in a room with so many genuinely kind, gifted, and inspiring Bay Area artists all at one time. It takes a truly special person to bring this particular collection of people together, not just to make something beautiful, but to create something meaningful and important for our community.
I also want to give much love and gratitude to @boskokante and @vinithawatson, through whom many of these connections first began. When I moved back to the Bay Area after over a decade of building my music career and doing creative work in Southern California, I was welcomed into the incredible creative community surrounding @thezoolabs. I’ve been fortunate to stay connected to extraordinary Bay Area artists who have welcomed, embraced, inspired and celebrated me. Those relationships mean more than I can express in one post.
There’s something really moving about returning to music and finding that the community is alive and well… creating, growing, and making room for one another in powerful and necessary ways. I’m reminded of how much I love being part of something bigger than myself.

having a spring birthday has always made me feel like my new year begins when the flowers start to bloom. and while fall is usually seen as a season of shedding, in my forties i’ve come to experience these last few months of the calendar year as a time of growing into myself, quietly becoming the version of me i’ll get to meet in my own true spring.
feeling especially grateful for all the beautiful music, people, and community that have brought me here. reflecting on what’s been, making room for what’s next, and genuinely excited for everything still to bloom.
God is good. all the time(s). 🌱

big gratitude to long time collaborations with bosko kante, miles dotson, zoo labs, and vinitha watson… where so much of this story began. it was such an honor to sing with the soul slappers and silk-e and to share a mic with E-40 😆🥲
big gratitude to my family for constant love, support, and last minute child care. 🥳
it truly takes a village, and my why is bigger than it has ever been.
creating a song with dear friends who have stuck with me through thick and thin — and made music with me through thick and thin — now turning that music into an anthem for my own legacy was such a powerful exercise in poetry, friendship, motherhood, and community.
i use ai tools and technology for so many things. i believe deeply in what technology can make possible. but there will come a time when the threat of artists being replaced will feel even more real than it already does. the threat of real artistry being replaced.
right now, my trained musician ears can spot an ai song in 30-60 seconds. . but there may come a time when musicians and consumers alike may not be able to tell the difference between a piece of art created from lived experience and something generated in seconds.
and that makes me think even more deeply about what our responsibility is as artists.
we have to keep creating. keep building the beautiful. keep doing the things technology cannot do: creating community, pouring into community, investing in community, leading with kindness and mutual respect, and making our art the fruit of that community.
because art is not only the thing we make. it is the people, places, histories, relationships, risks, losses, joy, and love that made the thing possible.
proud to be bay area born and raised. proud to be part of the legacy of all the legendary artists, artisans, entrepreneurs, builders, and tech developers who came before me and continue to shape what comes next.
let’s harness this superpower safely — without forgetting what makes us human.
