What a beautiful place to begin my journey in Cape Town! A big thank you to Constantia Glen for welcoming us to your stunning wine estate. Such a wonderful experience. 03 Nov 2026 I had the privilege of traveling to South Africa alongside living legend, @forestwhitaker. While the world knows Forest for his extraordinary contributions to film, I’ve come to admire him just as much for his commitment to humanity and his investment in the people and future of South Africa. Through his work with @whitaker_peace Forest is demonstrating what it means to use your influence to create opportunity, empower young people, and build lasting change. I’m grateful for the opportunity to travel alongside him, witness that work firsthand, and learn from a man whose impact extends far beyond the screen. 02 Nov 2026 What a joy to join the wonderful Trudie Styler at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Up Against It, which she directed and in which I have the pleasure of playing Dr. Abara. Up Against It is a heartfelt story about connection and the unexpected turns life can take. Getting to work on this film with a dear friend made it all the more special. Congratulations to the cast and crew who brought Up Against It to life! 02 Oct 2026 There’s something powerful about bringing people together around a shared belief: that peace is possible, and it begins with each of us. That’s what WPDI’s Rise as One Gala was about. I was moved by the young peacemakers who took the stage and shared their voices. Their vision reminds me why this work matters. Thank you to everyone who stood with us: our peacebuilders, honorees, special guests, performers, friends, and partners. I’m grateful to Amina J. Mohammed, Luol Deng, John Prendergast, Dionne Warwick, Mike Tyson, Saweetie, Miri Ben-Ari, Ana Netanel, Damon Elliott, and everyone who shared their time and talent with us. And a special thank you to our MC, Errol Barnett, for helping make the evening so meaningful. We are grateful to our leading sponsors: @visa, @wwt_inc, @bnpparibas, @starkeyhearingfoundation and Ken Freirich’s @randomactsofkindnessmusic, for their generous support, and we extend our sincere thanks to all of our sponsors and partners who helped make it possible. Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in the possibility of a more peaceful future. Thank you for Rising as One with us. Our work continues. 01 Oct 2026 Years ago, in Northern Uganda, I listened to young people speak about experiences no child should ever have to endure. Yet what stayed with me was not only what they had survived. It was their resilience, their determination, and their belief that they could help build a different future. Those encounters, together with my early work with @UNESCO, inspired me to create the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative. In the years since, this work has taken me to communities in many different parts of the world. I have continued to meet people confronting violence, displacement, poverty, and exclusion, and everywhere, the same truth holds: when people are given the skills, opportunities, and support to shape their own futures, they become leaders of peace. This International Day of Peace, I’m reflecting on why peace cannot be something we invest in only after violence has taken hold. It must be a daily commitment, and it must begin with investing in people. Swipe to read my full op-ed → 21 Sep 2026 War leaves deep scars on children; on their safety, their dignity, and their chance to learn. On today’s International Day to Protect Education from Attack, Forest Whitaker, CEO of the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI), calls on all of us to protect children from the violence that threatens their futures. OSRSG‑CAAC and @whitaker_peace have worked together for many years to empower children and young people in conflict‑affected communities, and to advocate for a world where every child can go to school safely and dream of a life free from war. Through the Prove It Matters campaign, we have collaborated with children in South Africa, South Sudan, and Uganda, helping them share their experiences, their hopes, and their demands for protection. Education is more than a right; it is a lifeline. When we protect schools, we protect childhood. When we protect children, we protect peace. #ProveItMatters #ProtectEducationFromAttacks 09 Sep 2026 Join us in New York City as we “Rise as One” for peace! ✨ Held every two years, WPDI’s Gala honors the changemakers from the field, our partners, and the community of supporters who make this work possible. For International Youth Day, our CEO and Founder, UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation, Forest Whitaker, reflects on a lesson that has shaped his life and work: investing in young people means investing in peace. From Los Angeles to South Sudan, France, and Mexico, young people may live in different circumstances, but their aspirations are remarkably similar: to learn, to lead, to work, to build, and to create a better future for themselves and their communities. In his latest op-ed, Forest shares why young people aren’t waiting to be saved. They are already leading. 🔗 Through the link in our bio, read his reflection on why expanding opportunity for young people is one of the most important investments we can make in our shared future! 12 Aug 2026 Young people around the world may grow up in different circumstances, but they share many of the same aspirations: dignity, opportunity, meaningful work, quality education, and the chance to build a better future. @UNESCO’s 2026 Lead with Youth report reminds us that creating opportunities for young people to shape their future means more than simply asking for their perspectives. While around 60% of youth and student organizations surveyed said they had been consulted during policy design, only 35% said their input was reflected in final decisions. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting young leaders from every corner of the world though @whitaker_peace. Again and again, they’ve reminded me that they are not waiting to be saved. They are already leading. What they need is the opportunity, trust, and support to turn their ideas into action. For this year’s International Youth Day, I wrote about why investing in young people is one of the most important investments we can make in lasting peace. 12 Aug 2026 It’s my honor to announce that Academy Award Winner and dear friend @forestwhitaker will be appearing on two projects of mine. The first is on WE ARE SPIRITS: ELEW Plays STING my upcoming portrait of @theofficialsting , where he profoundly renders an original poem of mine based on the title track, Sting’s incisive classic, Spirits in the Material World. He is joined by Maestro @roncarterbassist , @davidhawkinsmusic_ and special guest vocalist, the Sublime @mariememusic . The second is on an exciting audiobook of my reimagination of the Odyssey, in which Forest portrays Tiresias, the phantom prophet in Hades that will have some choice words to say to our protagonist while I provide austere atmospheric piano scoring. We’ve recorded the scene and it is thrilling. And more actors have joined my cast already so this thing is taking on a life and momentum of its own in a huge way. I will keep you all Posted! I’ve signed a distribution deal for the Sting album and we’ve decide to release on or around October 1st due to the new talents that are coming onboard to help me explore the many sounds of Sting. And for those of you of the Stingdom who have preordered vinyl of my single with Sting, “Fortress Around Your Heart”, check your emails for updates on the delivery! I am keeping you informed. I wasn’t satisfied with the intial test pressing so we re-engineered it ( vinyl engineering is a bit different that digital and so you don’t know how the organic material will behave until you get the test pressing. ) And it sounds AWESOME! I can’t wait for you all to get it. Looking at August sometime. Again, I will keep you posted! ❤️ to @yamahapianosofficial @yamahaentertainmentgroup for the ever immaculate pianos. ❤️ to @nikchinboukas and @spinrecordingstudio my ever stalwart engineer and studio for all ELEW output. ❤️ to @aumi for her wonderful cloaks that cut the chilly nights and the desert heat with such beauty and comfort. ❤️ to @jazzaddikt for the incredible and iconic captures. Our scene loves you. Cheers! #ELEW #ForestWhitaker #STING #jazz #cherrytreemusiccompany 26 Jul 2026 Today, I remember John Lewis with deep gratitude. John’s unwavering commitment to justice, dignity, and non-violence inspired me, and it continues to inspire millions around the world. He showed us that courage is measured not only by what we stand against, but by what we are willing to build together. The spirit of his life has never been more important than it is today. At a time when so many communities are searching for hope, his example reminds us that peace begins with seeing one another’s humanity, choosing dialogue over division, and believing that every person has the power to make a difference. The greatest way we can honor John is by living the values he embodied: with compassion, integrity, and a commitment to creating a more peaceful world for those who come after us. May his light continue to guide us. 17 Jul 2026 Happy Birthday to our founder and CEO, @forestwhitaker ! 🎉 Today, members of the WPDI family from around the world came together to celebrate not only your birthday, but the vision, compassion, and commitment to peace that continue to inspire our work every day. Thank you for believing that peace is a skill that can be learned, practiced, and shared. Your leadership has empowered thousands of young people and communities to become changemakers, proving that lasting peace begins with opportunity, dialogue, and hope. From all of us at WPDI, we wish you a wonderful birthday and a year filled with joy, good health, and continued impact. Happy Birthday, Forest! 💙 15 Jul 2026
