“Maybe this is the grown-up, more sophisticated, more educated version of myself,” Athena Calderone (@eyeswoon) muses of her new Manhattan home she designed with her team at @studioathenacalderone. Eight years after featuring her much-emulated Greek Revival Brooklyn town house, we’re ushering in Athena’s new era on the cover of our April issue. Step inside the beautifully restored home, previously owned by Thierry Despont, at the link in bio. A pivotal moment. As I look back in gratitude at all that came before, my environment has always echoed where I am. I am at a point where I’m growing in different ways in both life and business. This is the next natural step. A Tribeca space for empty nesters. A new challenge. A place that honors design and music with a rich history in its bones. Thierry Despont and a Japanese pop star left a storied space that I will deeply honor as I create something brand new for myself and for our family. Ever onward in the pursuit of challenging oneself, not sitting still, and self-educating every day. I am so grateful for all of it. Including this chance to look at the path that took me to this moment with Maureen O’Connor (@maureenoco) for the @nytimes. What’s next? More to come. Thank you @cgbp for capturing these beautiful images in our new home, to @amyastley & @brauerseb for your heartfelt contribution, and of course to @stellabugbee! It would be remiss of me to not thank @jonnybauer who introduced me to this off-market gem of a home! So much gratitude to @nickgavinnyc for making it happen so quickly. And of course to @dadagoldberg and @rebeccagoldbergbrodsky who manifested this moment and has believed in me every step of the way. In the issue, Athena shares how Paris has influenced her creative journey, particularly inspiring the design of her latest New York home. She opens up about embracing multiple roles in life—interior designer, chef, entrepreneur, and more—and reveals her secrets to hosting unforgettable dinner parties. The issue also features Belgian fashion designer Florence Cools, who brings together fashion, art, and design in her Parisian boutique nearby Tuileries, and viral quote sensation, the Parisien artist Thomas Lélu. Additionally, the spotlight falls on sisters Kimberley Cohen and Leslie Kouhana, who recently launched Le Grand Mazarin, a luxurious, colorful decorated 5-star hotel in Le Marais, Paris, designed by Martin Brudnizki, and part of their Maisons Pariente. The special issue covers the Parisian inspirations, lifestyle, and creative endeavors of all these and other trailblazers, providing you with a blend of interior design, fashion, and culinary inspiration, all tied to the magic of Paris. This issue is in Dutch with English summaries for some stories and is available both in stores and online. Paris, J’adore! To hear the birds chirping, to notice the smallest details, to feel time expand rather than slip away. Some things are worth making time for. Thank you @chanelofficial and the PREMIÈRE GALON watch for the inspiration to slow down and savor the moment. #CHANELPremiere #CHANELPartner 05 Nov 2026 Call me a sucker for nostalgia and a good comeback story, but this past weekend at the newly restored @delanomiamibeach had me swooning. Some places hold decades of memories, and this one holds many of ours. I first visited the glamorous Delano in 1995, during a brief stint living in Miami Beach. Victor and I then made it our home away from home, staying at the property during the early rise of his DJ career, when he was a resident at Liquid and later Crobar. We even rang in the millennium at this iconic Art Deco landmark. But perhaps my favorite chapter in our Delano story is that it was the very first hotel to welcome our family of three. Jivan was just two months old for his first-ever hotel stay, and we still have the most precious photograph of him propped up in the lobby’s iconic oversized sofa. To return 26 years later with our entire family, Tuco included, and experience this beloved property reimagined through the creative lens of our dearest friend of 20 years, @benpundole , makes this full-circle moment all the sweeter. The design is beautiful, the hospitality perfection, and the food impeccable. As for our decadent stay in the penthouse, my favorite details are twofold: the stunning terrace overlooking the crystalline sea and the comfiest beds imaginable. There is something so special about seeing a place you love reinvent itself while still holding onto the magic that made you fall for it in the first place. We will be back again and again. Thank you, Ben, and thank you, Delano, for making room for a whole new chapter of memories. No one loves a reinvention story quite like me! 03 Nov 2026 I am the first to admit that slowing down does not come naturally to me. If I don’t make a conscious effort to pause, I can easily get swept up in the busyness of life. Before the day has even begun, I’m buried in emails, meetings, and the endless flurry of commitments. So I’ve made it a ritual to reclaim my mornings. Setting my phone aside. A long, meandering walk through the park, playing with my pup along the water, the simple tactility of a newspaper. The beauty of an analog morning. To feel, to touch, to simply be. As a creative, I’ve come to understand just how essential this unstructured time is. Giving my mind permission to wander, to daydream, to make connections I might otherwise miss. So often, these quiet, seemingly unproductive moments are where the most unexpected ideas begin to take shape. Perhaps the greatest luxury of all is choosing how we spend our time. A beautiful reminder from @chanelofficial and the PREMIÈRE GALON watch that time is ours to define. #CHANELPremiere #CHANELPartner 05 Nov 2026 It feels so good to be back!!! I’ve missed cooking for you all so much, and what better way to kick off the first EyeSwoon Unplugged in my new Tribeca kitchen than with my Whole Roasted Chicken? I know roasting a whole chicken can feel intimidating (trust me, I’ve been there!), but this recipe is deceptively easy, incredibly delicious, and one I hope will give you the confidence to make it again and again. With minimal prep, it’s a one-pan dinner simple enough for a Wednesday night but impressive enough for Saturday. The secret to its zippy flavor? One of my favorite spices: sumac. Its beautiful, rusty-red hue might suggest something peppery, but sumac actually has a bright, tangy, lemon-like flavor that’s incredibly versatile. Trust me, you’re going to love this one! 30 Oct 2026 In 2008, I was 33 years old. I had no career and was living in Dumbo with our 5-year-old son. As a creative, I was home alone a lot. Filled with love, but also feeling isolated and without direction. I began using what I had around me to create, to express. And that was HOME. I would cook a meal, craft a table, labor over the flowers, the lighting, the music. Hyper-focused on every element, every detail, to set the scene. I had no idea what I was doing or where it would lead. I only knew that creating an all-encompassing sensorial world around the table felt so right. But more than anything, it gave me a sense of purpose and connection, while unearthing a passion I didn’t know existed. I could never have imagined that this instinct for world-building would become a career that fulfills me every day. Or that I would one day travel the world, designing within some of the most iconic and architecturally significant spaces. I only knew what fueled me, and I put one foot in front of the other. I am beyond proud of this work in Vienna in an apartment designed by Adolf Loos, but perhaps even more proud of the journey that brought me here. I share this because I am proof that you can find yourself, your passion, and even your career later in life. You don’t always need to know where you’re going. Sometimes you just need to follow what makes you feel alive, even when you have absolutely no idea where it might lead. As a designer, I am constantly gathering inspiration wherever I go—the curve of a stone arch, the tone of ancient marble, the way light moves across a piazza. Over time, the architecture, atmosphere, and essence of a place that have accrued in my mind’s eye begin to surface in everything I make. This sense of design alchemy came into focus while renovating my Tribeca home, but especially in the kitchen. Visual references I’d accumulated over time—the lacquer work of Eileen Grey, the form of a Le Corbusier desk, the ancient red stone tub I discovered at The Met —all coalesced to inform the beauty you see today. There is so much I want to share about this process, but let’s start with the stone and how I landed on this bold hue for the kitchen island. In early 2020 I flew to Copenhagen to visit my architect, @daniellesiggerud. As I perused the materials in her studio, I happened across a marble sample called Red Kinnekule. I was immediately smitten by the deep oxblood tones of this Swedish limestone embedded with delicate marine fossils. I shared the sample with the team at @abcstone, and they sourced the perfect match for our kitchen counter. I love how its matte, tonal surface offers an elegant contrast to the rich, glossy lacquer base of the island. I appreciated the uniqueness of this stone and how the reddish brown undertones beautifully complemented the surrounding wood as well as the oxblood lacquer without it being an exact match. This remarkable limestone is part of The Tribeca Collection—my inaugural curation with ABC Stone—and I am excited to see how you use it in your homes and projects, too. Photography by @katesjordan Styling by @katjagreeff 28 Oct 2026 I still remember the first time I entered the primary bathroom at Villa Necchi Campiglio. Clad almost entirely in Arabescato Orobico marble, it wasn’t the stone itself that took my breath away, but its composition. Rather than uninterrupted slabs, the marble is arranged in graphic, linear cuts, with visible seams and deliberately mismatched veining. Disciplined yet imperfect, bold yet restrained. Narrow strips of dark marble punctuate the floor, like pinstripes against the richly patterned stone. I studied Portaluppi’s bathrooms at length when designing my own, seeking to understand how he achieved such a grand, expressive statement through remarkably simple choices. Unlike many bathrooms today, with their expansive, bookmatched slabs, Portaluppi embraced the individuality of each piece of stone. He allowed irregularity and variation in the veining to become part of the composition, using contrast and geometry rather than perfection to create drama. It was this approach that inspired me to reinterpret those graphic black lines against a quieter, more restrained palette in my own bathroom. I was equally drawn to his striking marble surrounds, which framed simple drop-in porcelain bathtubs rather than elaborate, custom-carved stone ones. This approach directly informed the design of our primary bathtub, proving that simplicity can be every bit as beautiful, elegant, and sophisticated. Each gesture brought a sense of ceremony to the space, elevating even the most ordinary moments. It was a visual reminder that the biggest, the best, or the most perfectly matched doesn’t always equate to the most beautiful or thoughtfully designed space. Thank you @archdigest and @kristenflanagan for including my Tribeca primary bathroom in your recent story on Piero Portaluppi and his iconic bathrooms. I am honored to be mentioned alongside one of my greatest inspirations! 26 Oct 2026
