Through symbols, figures, invented forms, and moments of quiet wonder. The exhibition explores painting’s ability to transform the familiar into something unexpected. These paintings ask whether images themselves can perform magic. Transformation emerges through presence, a quiet glow or a slow burn. Together, the exhibition proposes that there is never just one path toward transformation. Thank you to everyone who came out last night to see this painting IRL. One of my favorite parts of making things is getting to share them with fam, friends, lovers, and other creatives who have been supportive throughout the process. As I get older, I really value these moments. This series began from a desire to move through darkness and work toward light. It grew out of the next installment of my Hexas series, where a young witch uses collective magic to resist the rise of an authoritarian leader. In one scene, the character enters a music class and encounters a collection of strange instruments, tools, and apparatuses. I started imagining objects that might live in that room. Forms for listening, focusing energy, persevering, and dreaming toward better futures. This painting is number three in the series. More will be posted soon. If I went MIA in April/May, it was because I was asked to develop some initial directions + 2D graphix for the @madonna Times Square concert before I left for Tokyo. The initial ask was to create something that connected Madonna’s creative for Confessions II with Grindrs for a special event ID that felt approp for nyc. That’s where these poster directions came from. I was especially inspired by the lineage of Madonna working with gay NYC artists like Keith Haring and Warhol, and I was excited to take a swing at continuing that legacy in my own way. These posters were just early explorations but I thought it would be fun to share a small peek at it. I left the project in early May for Tokyo, where I’m currently, so I didn’t get to see where everything landed until I watched the livestream today with my morning coffee☕️. I’m grateful to have been included in the early stages and to make some fun initial concept images for it. Hope u all enjoy + happy pride! Most of the time when I’m dancing, I imagine myself moving through different elements and forms. If you see me out steppin around, in my head I’m probably channeling any number of things: spit-fueled bubble forms, a growing tendril of ivy sewing time into stone, the staccato of an early margaret atwood pressing a typewriter key to make a letter flex more expressive, or more recently transparent marbles with Saturn rings trapped inside them, released into chromatic waves that widen as they land in crystal-clear water with quiet confidence. I know, what a mouthful for instagram, but you’re the one who kept reading. I live in a buck-wild imagination every day, and as I get older, I realize it’s been my salvation. As the year winds down, I’m looking forward to having some time to get a little groovy with myself and I hope you get some time with good tunes and a bounce floor too. Oh, and come see me this weekend at Press Play @pioneerworks I’m exhausted from a bunch of new things I’ve been making, but really looking forward to seeing some of your corneas up close.
