The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura (@orquestadecateura) makes its Hong Kong debut this November as part of M+’s Fifth Anniversary celebrations. Directed by Favio Chávez, this group of young musicians from Paraguay performs on instruments crafted by local artisans from landfill materials into something extraordinary. 為慶祝M+開幕五周年，來自巴拉圭的「卡特烏拉回收管弦樂團」（@orquestadecateura）將於11月首度來港演出！樂團由法維奧．查維茲創立及帶領，並由巴拉圭年輕樂手組成。當地工匠利用堆填區廢料製成環保樂器，成功將廢棄物轉化為美妙的音樂。若想近距離欣賞這些樂器，可到訪館內的「造物記」展覽。

📣 Announcing a new cultural alliance!
Founded respectively in 1929, 1977, and 2021, MoMA (@themuseumofmodernart), Centre Pompidou (@centrepompidou), and M+ (@mplusmuseum) have each introduced a new paradigm for collecting institutions dedicated to the art of their time. With an unprecedented footprint across three continents, this cultural alliance will be able to expand how modern and contemporary art is experienced in an increasingly interconnected world.
The three institutions are uniting to bring their extraordinary collections to their respective audiences, develop co-organised exhibitions and programmes, and deepen collaborative curatorial research and conservation, providing expanded opportunities for their visitors.

Why are we drawn to fantasy?
Throughout history, artists have turned to fantastical storytelling to make sense of turbulent realities, challenge conventions and social norms, and imagine new possibilities.
Featuring original research by leading scholars, ‘Myths, Monsters and Manga: The Art of Fantasy in Asia’ reveals how fantasy continues to shape contemporary visual culture in the digital age. Unveiling an immersive mural measuring 10 by 4 metres, newly commissioned for the now-open exhibition ‘Myths and Monsters: The Art of Fantasy in Asia’.
Created by Helsinki-based Hong Kong artist Oscar Chan Yik Long over 10 days on-site, ‘Fear Catcher’ (2026) was inspired by Taoist folklore about Zhong Kui, a vanquisher of ghosts and evil spirits.

M+ and CHANEL are expanding their partnership as CHANEL becomes a Lead Partner of the museum, continuing their support for M+’s moving image programmes and introducing the new initiative Pioneering Visions.
The first highlight is ‘Sarah Sze: Centrifuge’, a solo presentation opening in February 2027. Through public talks, screenings, workshops, and a new digital hub showcase the M+ Collections, Pioneering Visions will spotlight artists and makers shaping contemporary visual culture, with a focus on visionary voices from Hong Kong, Greater China, Asia, and beyond.

‘Myths and Monsters: The Art of Fantasy in Asia’ opens today at the West Gallery, L2!
From Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints and Chinese shadow puppetry to Surrealist painting and the post-war emergence of manga and anime, the exhibition traces fantastical storytelling across Asian art, design, moving image, and digital culture, and its global impact. Through imaginative stories, characters, and worlds, these artists confront real-life challenges, reveal deeply human hopes and fears, and invite us to see our world anew.

Can dance change the way we think of and experience an exhibition?
Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDance) artistic director Yang Yuntao M. H. and performers Lee Chia-ming, Liu Wai-yee, and Ng Ka-ling speak to Assistant Curator Dorothea Lam about their shanshui-inspired performance. From January to March 2026, M+ Live Art and HKDance co-presented a series of performances in the exhibition ‘Shanshui: Echoes and Signals’ in South Galleries at M+.
