Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen to our latest picks! We all know that techno was invented in Detroit in the mid to late 80s, right? Well, sort of. Because this footage - the earliest surviving film of Düsseldorf's gamechanging electronic pioneers - appears to show them laying down some rather banging four to the floor techno during an improvised set at German festival Rockpalast way back in 1970. Check the rather saucer eyed audience having their minds utterly blown too! @kraftwerkofficial 24 Nov 2025 Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen to our latest picks! For the first video in this series, we’re highlighting Todd Edwards’ legendary debut UK performance at Time & Envy, Romford. This set has gone down as one of the most iconic moments in house and UK garage, not just for the crowd’s infectious energy and reactions, but also for Todd’s own response to playing to such a huge UK audience. As he later told The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis: “I didn’t know what a rewind was. I didn’t know they had MCs chanting and getting the crowd riled up. The communication between the audience and the DJ was like nothing I’d seen before. Which gave me a new admiration for what DJing was in the first place.” Were you there? @toddedwards3000 #jesuslovesukgarage #ukg #toddedwards iconicdjsets 22 Sep 2025 @hyperdriverecords is back with a third outing which once again offers up some exciting and forward-thinking new artists. @wexualmatt 'Sweet Psylow' kicks off with some psychedelic synth loops over crisp tech house drums that hark back to the 90s prog heyday. HearThuG’s 'Back To The Future' is a darker sound with whistles, snappy snares and eerie chords and @luismalon_ & @sebglive then combine for the bouncing techno rhythms and acid-laced pads of 'Extasis Nebular.' Last but not least, @jamieleather_ 'Strange Commodities' is a surging cosmic techno trip with dynamic drums and perc and majestic leads. This is another fine release from this young label.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Quick Search on Juno: 1011601-01⁣⁣ Link in Bio 10 Sep 2024 The Shamen - Move Any Mountain, Top Of The Pops, 1991. Mr C and Colin Angus bringing rave to prime time BBC with one of the defining anthems of the early 90s. Were you watching at home? 08 Nov 2026 Comment 'JUNOPICKS' to listen! Hackney Electronica's 'Feedback Memory' EP is a night out in the grittiest corners of East London with the lights flickering. Quinn Whalley, Unai Trotti and Margo Broom started this trio during lockdown, and their sound is heavy, hypnotic and, well, a little unhinged as they chase the thin line between pleasure and paranoia. 'Trapped in the Circuit' and 'Six Foot Seven' with Mutado Pintado on vocals are the dancefloor hitters. The title track and 'Lost Trip - Destino' get warped and wavey, while 'Compressed Air' closes with breakbeats and a trip-hop wobble. Come for the acid, stay for the comedown. @darkentriesrecords @margobroomproducer 07 Nov 2026 The most bonkers electronic moments on Top of the Pops. Which one do you remember, and what did we miss? The Orb, Blue Room (1992) TOTP wouldn't play the whole of officially the longest single of all time, at more than 39 minutes, and The Orb couldn't bring themselves to mime to it. Instead, they donned spacesuits and played chess. Like you do. Check mate! The KLF, It's Grim Up North (1991) One in a line of great records listing towns in Northern Britain, 'It's Grim Up North' was marked with a spectacularly surreal TOTP slot, Bill Drummond reading the names from a piece of paper while the Grand Union Morris dancers clashed sticks behind them. Orbital, Chime (1990) A more minimal attempt at miming you'll probably never see, the cameras mainly forced to focus on a random dancer, to try to liven things up. When the shot does finally linger on the Hartnoll brothers, it reveals they're wearing t-shirts saying 'No' (Paul) and 'Poll Tax' (Phil), a political statement that got them banned from the show. Opus III, It's a Fine Day (1992) Kirsty Hawkshaw is the daughter of TV theme tune genius Alan Hawkshaw and is now married to d&b star Adam F. She sang on literally hundreds of dance records. But if you need to describe her to someone, forget all that and simply go for "the woman holding those funny balls on Top Of The Pops" and watch the penny drop. Altern-8, Activ-8 (1991) Stafford duo Altern-8's distinctive look, hazmat suits and branded facemasks, put paid to any criticism that dance music was faceless. Add a robot on stilts and the sound of a toddler imitating drug deal slang and you've got an unforgettable few minutes of TV. The Grid, Crystal Clear (1993) More desperate attempts by the TOTP directors to make rave music look visually appealing end here with a huge throne for the scarlet-clad DJ and some extremely overzealous fake electronic drumming by Richard Norris. Moby, Go (1991) These days we know Moby as that vegan Christian fella who makes eight hour albums to help you with your wellbeing. Back in 1991 when his first hit landed he was simply 'that nutter going mad at his keyboard'. It was a different time. 07 Nov 2026 Comment 'JUNOPICKS' to listen! Dave Angel and R&S go back to 1991, when the Belgian label picked up the London producer's 'Rolling Thunder', so a first full-length together has taken its sweet time. A Time And Place opens Angel's techno out towards jazz and soul, with Steve Waterman's Miles Davis-inspired trumpet curling through 'Reflexion' and 'The Yellow Butterfly'. Robert Owens brings his unmistakable Chicago soul to 'Harmony Serenade', and Angel's daughter Aurii Sky appears on 'Do You Feel What I Feel'. Thirty-five years for an album is some gestation period but nobody can accuse them of rushing it. 06 Nov 2026 Model 500 - No UFOs, 1985. The first release on Juan's own Metroplex label, and one of the records that set techno in motion. Thank you for everything, Juan. 06 Nov 2026 Comment 'XMAS' to shop the Juno Christmas Store! The Juno Christmas Store is now open. Gift ideas, buyer guides, the best releases of 2026 and more, all in one place. 06 Nov 2026 Comment 'JUNOPICKS' to listen! Vega Records occasional '5 Pack Unreleased' series - so-called because we get five slabs of wax filled with previously unheard gems- reaches its seventh instalment. It's another terrific collection all told, with much gold to be found amongst the 15 tracks on show. There's not enough room to list all the highlights, so we'll point you in the direction of some notable and must-check fare. We'd suggest getting your ears around CoFlo's deep and heavy house dub of Loleatta Holloway's 'Can't let You Go', the revivalist disco (with a house twist) that is Louie Vega's ace revision of 'Freedom Of Dance (It's The Beat)' by Brutha Louie and Brutha Basil, 2Soul Fusion's horn-heavy Latin party mix of Donno Donno's 'Happening in the Streets' and Louie Vega's 'Feeling Good', a deep Latin house tribute to Nina Simone. 06 Nov 2026 Comment 'JUNOPICKS' to listen! Shadowy Detroit duo The Fantasy continue to offer up "secret mixes fixes" - high-grade, sonically spectacular re-rubs inspired by the original reel-to-reel re-edit era and the now iconic DJs behind the movement (Ron Hardy, Danny Krivit and Larry Levan included). The Motor City twosome kick off volume 5 in their ongoing series with 'Working Girl', a throbbing, San Francisco style electro disco workout peppered with spacey synth riffs, before turning a Bay Area drum machine workout into a breathless peak-time percussion-fest. Over on the reverse, 'On Fire Warp' is another percussion-laden revision of what sounds like a post-punk era industrial funk gem, while 'Lovefingers' is a break-driven translation of an ancient psychedelic rock workout. 05 Nov 2026 Comment 'JUNOPICKS' to listen! Reptile Mob is proud to present 'Lost N Found' EP opening the vault to a long-awaited archive collection of unheard garage house tracks from Darlington-born and London-based producer Highrise. Unearthed from old hard drives, this EP captures a raw, unfiltered moment in UK garage, true to its name. Highrise is the alias of Dinn Warde, a name jungle heads know well as Dwarde. While he's been making increasingly large splashes on the jungle scene, his garage output as Highrise on labels like Practical Rhythms, Vibesey Records, Shuffle & Swing, and Fresh Milk Records has been equally on-point. Lost no more, found at last. The 'Lost N Found' EP is yours to discover. @highrise_dj @reptile_mobz 05 Nov 2026
