Already! It snuck up on us so fast but last week marks one year since we took an important step forward in our organization’s history, evolving from SAACA into Art State Arizona and expanding our vision from Southern Arizona to communities across our entire state. The Arizona Daily Star recently shared the story of this evolution, highlighting the work we have been fortunate to do with communities across Arizona, but what stands out most to us is that none of this happened alone. For more than two decades, artists, makers, musicians, businesses, municipalities, foundations, community leaders, volunteers, sponsors, nonprofit partners, cultural organizations, and countless VOLUNTEERS have helped shape this organization and its work. Our evolution into Art State Arizona is about opening the door to something bigger: a statewide creative ecosystem where Arizona’s many communities can connect, collaborate, and recognize the arts as essential to the future of our state. We are especially grateful to the communities that trusted us to help bring their ideas to life, while allowing each place to retain its own identity and voice. We are grateful to the artists who continue to bring imagination and creativity into our public spaces and communities. And we are grateful to the partners who have believed in the power of collaboration. As we celebrate this first year as Art State Arizona, we are reminded that the name may be new, but the relationships, experience, commitment, and community behind the work run deep. Thank you for helping us build this next evolution. There is so much more ahead, and we are excited to continue building a more connected, creative, and culturally vibrant Arizona together. I am a self-taught metal fabricator and artist with a gift for turning discarded steel into art objects. Like many of us, I believe we are “damaged goods” or a “lost cause.”In my life, Jesus lifted me up, dusted me off, and changed my heart so that I could change from the inside out to what He wants me to be. In the same way, it is my goal to create works of art from “cast offs” as the Lord leads. My preference is to leave a natural patina and have the metal to reflect its imperfections from dealing with the elements. - Bob Join us at AZ Fall Art in the Park and discover how Robert Davis transforms reclaimed steel into bold, large-scale works of art. Based in Sahuarita, Robert gives surplus materials a new purpose through hand-cut and cold-bent metal sculptures. His work often incorporates solar-powered water pumps and copper bowls, bringing his sculptures to life as tranquil, flowing fountains. Inspired by the beauty and possibilities of reclaimed materials, Robert’s creations celebrate sustainability, resourcefulness, and the craftsmanship behind transforming something discarded into something extraordinary. At Art State Arizona, we love bringing artists and communities together through experiences that celebrate creativity, innovation, and the power of art to transform our surroundings. Robert’s work is a wonderful example of how artistic vision can turn sustainable practices into meaningful, one-of-a-kind creations. Come experience the artistry, craftsmanship, and calming presence of his sculptures at AZ Fall Art in the Park! Nov. 14–15 10 AM–4 PM each day Rillito Raceway Park 4502 N. 1st Avenue Tucson, AZ 85718 Free admission! #artstatearizona #artfestival #artstateaz #metalwork #reclaimed 06 Nov 2026 What becomes possible when artists with different lived experiences have the space, support, and opportunity to create together? Each pod is carefully dried, shaped, and set into custom wooden pendants, then inlaid with gemstones or shells—resulting in wearable art that’s both sustainable and beautiful. Many pieces double as essential oil diffusers, blending function with natural elegance. We’re inviting creatives from across the Southwest to grapple with the metaphorical, material, or ecological effects of fire. As devastating wildfires increase in frequency, how can artists restore an understanding of fire as sacred and vital to our ecosystems? Info session for artists this Thursday, November 5, 12 pm MST November 17 deadline. At Art State Arizona, we believe creative voices are essential to building a vibrant and connected cultural ecosystem. Sharing opportunities like this helps elevate artists, strengthen creative networks, and create pathways for Arizona and Southwest creatives to bring their ideas, perspectives, and work to broader audiences. We encourage artists across Arizona and the Southwest to learn more, participate, and share this opportunity with their creative communities. Let’s continue creating opportunities for artists to connect, contribute, and shape the conversations that matter to our region.
