“The way communities support artists of all areas and cultures says a lot about the people of the community.” 🎨 At the ArtPrize 2026 Awards Celebration on October 3, actor Bryan Cranston shared a few words about what makes Grand Rapids special: a community that shows up for artists and celebrates creativity in all its forms. We’re proud to be part of a community that makes space for art, supports artists, and brings people together through creativity. Thank you, @bryancranston, for recognizing the spirit of Grand Rapids and the community that makes ArtPrize possible. 💛 #ArtPrize2026 28 Oct 2026 💛 Last night was all about celebrating the people who make ArtPrize possible! Our volunteer party was a chance to come together, look back on an incredible year, and celebrate the countless hours, helping hands, and big hearts that brought ArtPrize to life. From welcoming visitors to supporting artists and everything in between, our volunteers are at the heart of it all. We couldn’t do this without them! To our volunteers, thank you for showing up, sharing your time, and helping make ArtPrize happen. This celebration was for YOU! 🎉 #ArtPrize2026 06 Nov 2026 Giving back is always in season! 🍂❤️ One of this year’s ArtPrize sponsors, Boardwalk Subs, is partnering with Ada Bible Church and Hand2Hand for a November Food Drive to help provide shelf-stable food items for children in need. Bring in a shelf-stable food item to any location, and receive a BOGO coupon for your next purchase! From granola bars and fruit snacks to mac & cheese and ramen, every donation makes a difference. Please remember: no glass or expired items, and all donations should be individually packaged. Thank you, Boardwalk Subs, for supporting ArtPrize and making a difference in our community! 🥫🙌 #ArtPrize2026 06 Nov 2026 Talk about a full-circle moment! 🎨 When Bryan Cranston came to ArtPrize, he got to meet Camryn Weaver, the artist behind The One Who Knocks — a spray-painted portrait of Cranston’s iconic Breaking Bad character, Walter White. Camryn brought Walter to life with vibrant colors and jagged details, capturing the character’s energy, spirit and complexity. And this year, the man behind the character got to see it for himself! There’s something pretty special about an artist meeting the person who inspired their work. 💛 #ArtPrize2026 05 Nov 2026 Sometimes the most unexpected materials make for the most unforgettable art. 👀 For Development Director Elspeth Nack, Toilet Paper Forest by MiMi Young-Mi Lee was a standout from this year’s competition! Beyond its striking visual impact, Elspeth was drawn to the story behind the work. The artist spent five years trying to bring this piece to ArtPrize, making it a powerful example of persistence and dedication. And the transformation? Taking such simple, everyday materials and turning them into an entirely different spatial experience is a feat of creativity and design. Proof that art can come from just about anything! #ArtPrize2026 05 Nov 2026 Art can tell a story in more ways than one. And sometimes, the materials themselves make the story even more powerful. ✨ For Controller Dina Bahnasawy, WW Vol. 2, No. 1 (Wonder Woman) by Joseph Mayernik, displayed at the Amway Grand, was a favorite from this year’s competition. Dina was amazed by the creativity behind the piece, which was made entirely from actual Wonder Woman comic books, without any paint. She also connected with Wonder Woman’s symbolism of strength, courage and resilience. As Dina shared, “Such a powerful piece, and honestly one I won't forget!” ❤️ #ArtPrize2026 03 Nov 2026 Another work from this year’s ArtPrize also honors Día de los Muertos. Coral Colmenares created Death Flirting with Life; inspired by Jesús Helguera’s work, this piece offers "a festive and symbolic interpretation of the relationship between life and death". In the spirit of Día de los Muertos, death approaches life not with fear, but with celebration, honoring their inseparable bond. A beautiful reminder that remembering those we love is also a way to celebrate life. 🌼 #ArtPrize2026 02 Nov 2026 Today is Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a Mexican tradition that honors and celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Rooted in Indigenous traditions and shaped over centuries, this celebration is a time for families to remember those they’ve lost through offerings, flowers, food, and joyful gatherings. La Catrina y el altar by Arturo Morales Romero celebrates the rich cultural history of this meaningful tradition through an altar. An Aztec calendar made from seeds represents Indigenous heritage, while the front of the altar reflects the blending of Spanish and Indigenous cultures. Seeds serve as a symbol of food, farming, nutrition, and the history of the celebration. Romero's piece was interactive, inviting visitors to write the name of a loved one who has passed on a seed and add it to a larger portrait of La Calavera Catrina by José Guadalupe Posada. Through art, tradition, and shared remembrance, this piece honors the lives of those we’ve lost and the connections that continue to live on. This incredible artist was not only able to incorporate different mediums as great artists can do, but able to incorporate different hands into the making of this beautiful piece. Romero invited children as well as adults to write the name of a loved one who passed and place it on a piece of art. We at ArtPrize love this and are very appreciative to have had Romero in ArtPrize this year. 📸 by @coyerphoto #ArtPrize2026 02 Nov 2026 Some artwork has an extra-special story behind it! For Ellen Trumbo, ArtPrize Deputy Director, Bonded with Gold by Erick Martinez Gregory was a standout this season. 🏆 Ellen first saw Erick present his work at Pitch Night in Arizona, giving her a unique connection to the piece. Getting to follow its journey from that initial presentation to its finished form at ArtPrize made seeing it in Grand Rapids even more meaningful! We love celebrating the creative journeys that bring art to life. ❤️ #ArtPrize2026 30 Oct 2026 🎨Feast Sadie Rose #ArtPrize2026 30 Oct 2026 Every ArtPrize season leaves us with pieces that stick with us long after the event ends. ❤️ For our 2026 Staff Picks series, we asked our team to share their favorite artwork from this year’s competition! ✨ First up: Coleman Brook Sr., Deputy Director, picked The Appreciation Project by Wendy Anderson Halperin. From thought-provoking installations to unexpected discoveries, there’s something special about seeing ArtPrize through the eyes of the people who help bring it to life. #ArtPrize2026 29 Oct 2026 📣 A BIG THANK YOU TO OUTFRONT! From billboards around Grand Rapids to helping spread the word about ArtPrize 2026, @outfrontmediausa did an incredible job bringing the excitement to the streets! 💙🎨 We’re so grateful for their partnership and support in helping promote ArtPrize and share the experience with our community.
