REINA NARANJA, my 1st year @usccinema short film, is now available to stream on USC’s “Reality Ends Here” channel thanks to distribution from Nikita Ventures. I was inspired by my Great-Grandparents and their journey of working at the citrus packing houses to owning a market of their own. Having never met them, I wondered if they ever remembered the sunshine of the orchards as they moved further into their dreams. We filmed between a local warehouse in Pomona and @franciscosfruit in my home county of Ventura. The production of this short holds some of my best memories at USC. I was in a trio that kicked ass on a weekly basis, we had an amazing network of crew that supported our work, and we were inspired across our respective projects. The 508 class where we produced this film is infamous for making life hell, but all of these people made hell a lot more enjoyable. Working with Yaritza, Any, and Ray made this project so fulfilling as a young director. Each of them were highly collaborative, and I’m grateful that they were willing to bring their talents to this film. A special shoutout to Yaritza, who not only brought the heat for her first film role — she comes from the same hometown as my family. Connecting back to my family’s story, her performance as the lead in this film brought a proximity to home that elevated everything. Reina Naranja is streaming through the link in my bio. I’m so proud to be named a 2026 California Arts Council Emerging Artist Fellow through the CAC’s Individual Artist Fellowship program administered by Los Angeles Performance Practice. This unrestricted fellowship supports artists directly and provides us the freedom to invest in our practices in the ways we need most. I’m blessed to be able to continue creating across the arts and to be recognized by the state I call home. For our annual Latine Heritage Month episode, we decided to do something a little different! On Capítulo 285 we take a deep dive into LA’s most iconic symbol: The Palm Tree 🌴 Palm trees are a synonymous symbol of Los Angeles. From the beaches, to Hollywood, and LA skyline. This symbol of the city has a deeper and more complicated history than most of us know. On this Capitulo we dig into the roots of the palm tree: native, transplant, and displaced, and how a new documentary Las Palmas, @palmas_doc , connects that story to the current immigration crisis. The film explores the social, political, and emotional impacts of the displacements of Latine communities currently happening in the streets of Los Angeles. And we are thrilled to be part of the team bringing this feature film to life! As consulting producers, we’re launching the 100 Days to 100K campaign to fund the Las Palmas feature film starting TODAY October 7.
