🚀CrED Launch As a mentor, lifelong learner, and someone whose career would not be possible without the community that has supported me, I’m excited to begin developing creatives here in the Twin Cities through a new mentorship program I’m launching. The Creative Entrepreneur Development (CrED) Program develops local Twin Cities creatives and empowers them to improve their craft, build a portfolio, and eventually launch their own business. In partnership with my good friends at @mismatched_media , we’re offering two tracks in documentary filmmaking and live concert media, with a third track for building skills outside these two disciplines. Applications are open right now so if you know anyone around the Twin Cities here in Minnesota who might benefit from a program like this, please send this post their way! Links to learn more about the program and apply are in my bio :) 📖Backstory Six years ago, I started making films. I had no experience but I had a camera and a dream of telling stories that made sustainable action more accessible. Along the way, I found countless mentors, friends, and collaborators who supported my journey and growth as a filmmaker. I wouldn’t be the filmmaker I am today without the community that I became part of. For the last eight years, I’ve been a mentor for programs ranging in topics from youth leadership development, public health, business education, climate action, filmmaking, and sustainability. These experiences served me well in college when I began mentoring underclassmen, helping them learn the ropes of creative professionalism, on set safety, and entrepreneurship as they started pitching and booking paid projects of their own. Today, I want Twin Cities creatives to benefit from that same sense of community and mentorship that made my career possible. 30 Aug 2026 Went to Kenya, ran my final Eco Media Fest, graduated, finished Cottonwood's festival run, got a j*b, and moved back to MN. It's good to be home. 25 May 2026 Every semester, the HBSF cohorts will post updates from our sustainability education journeys and as our current social media manager, I’m starting us off. This semester has been wild. For starters, I’m one of the @tylerprize Student Ambassadors and have been raising awareness of our conversation event on April 10th on campus at USC (RSVP at link in bio), working with my peers to promote this year’s accomplished laureates, Eduardo Brondízio and Sandra Díaz, and I wrote a new blog about Eduardo’s incredible work in the Amazon. You can check that out at my website (link in bio), www.ariantomar.com/blog. Then I’ve been engrossed in organizing the third annual Eco Film and Media Arts Festival with @artsclimatecollective which was a huge success. This year, we decided to open our festival to projects featuring collaborations with USC students and independent films from students across Southern California. We had an amazing night captured beautifully by @mitchjunga and jordanclaarke and celebrated our honored storytellers. Personally, I have two films out in the festival circuit. First is my short documentary “Cottonwood” about Cottonwood Urban Farm in Panorama City and their unique model for community organizing around sustainability and agriculture. It recently won Best Documentary at Keele University’s @earthstories_ff and is in consideration at a bunch of other festivals so keep us in your thoughts! Second, I got to work with @joshjay2202 on a short narrative film called “Hear Her” where we share a vision of the world in 2050 and try to make sense of how that future came to be. We’ve screened in a handful of festivals, most recently the Yale Environmental Film Festival. Josh is a first-time filmmaker, and I’m so stoked to have supported him in making this impactful climate story that is often more nonfiction than fiction. Finally, in class we’ve been learning about systems thinking so that we can leverage our individual industry’s strengths to shifting global systems toward sustainability. I was inspired to study the food production system by my work with urban farms in LA. Come to our Tyler Prize event and stay curious! —Arian 08 Apr 2025 I’ve returned from my social media hiatus with exciting news as a Student Ambassador for the @tylerprize. We’re having an incredible conversation on nature, people, and our interwoven future this Thursday (April 10) at 11:30am on campus at USC. Links are in my bio to RSVP for our event and to see my recent blog post about Tyler Prize Laureate, Eduardo Brondízio who makes the invisible, visible, as I aspire to do through my environmental storytelling. I hope to see you at our event and engaging with us on social media! 08 Apr 2025 Welcome to the Hayes Barnard Sustainability Fellowship’s Instagram account! I’m Arian and I’m majoring in film production @usccinema with a minor in entrepreneurship @uscmarshall I grew up in Minnesota where I learned to love the outdoors and found my passion for the environment. My sustainability interests are varied but I am particularly interested in science education, social enterprise, and impact storytelling. These interests have led to my work with @green.usc , @uscwrigley , @uscseagrant , and @cufarm , all of which have required me to combine my experiences in science, business, and filmmaking. What excites me most about this fellowship is that I get to learn with and learn from peers across the university who expand my understanding of what sustainability can look like. Through these new connections, I hope to create new synergies between my interests and those of my cohort so that we may strategically partner to create more of an impact than we could have individually. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to learn and grow together, eventually welcome new cohorts, and go on to lead our industries towards a more sustainable future. 24 Mar 2025 FILM OUT NOW. Check out the second link in my bio to watch “The Youth Climate Corps BC.” Thank you to my sponsor org @takeastandyouthforconservation for your guidance and support and our partner orgs @youthclimatecorps and @wildsightyouthclimatecorps for trusting me with such a powerful story. 01 Mar 2024
