I was gonna do a video, but I don’t have the energy, which is kinda the point. I’m stepping away from social media for all of December and probably some of January, we’ll see.
There’s been a lot happening in my personal life the last couple years and especially the last few months. I need to just focus on myself instead of absorbing hours and hours of painful news, stupid distractions, and everything else the internet offers. And as someone who has been VERY online for over a decade because of work, I’m just tired and I want to focus more on ADAM SILVERA THE HUMAN instead of @ADAMSILVERA. Two sides of the same coin, of course, but as someone who’s a proud open book, I’ve been silencing myself online because I don’t want to unload the heaviness of my life onto friends, fans, and followers. As a result, I don’t feel authentic to be living through pain IRL and pretending to be fine online. So if I can’t be online honestly, I don’t want to. And I finally realized i have the power to do actually change this.
I’m going to go get uncomfortable with myself. Confront my unhappiness. Break my heart. Heal. Create art without collecting every stranger’s opinion along the way. Reconnect with my favorite people. More walks, more reading, more exercising, more shows, more theater. Just MORE with all the time I’m about to gain back!
And I’m especially going to focus on the many dreams I’d love to make come true, which won’t happen with all the time spent doomscrolling and the sad hangover from doing so.
I’ll be back in 2026 with a fuller heart, bruises and all, and many more words and hopefully even more smiles.
Mad love to you all,
A

700+ pages of pain 💔
The biggest criticism I receive about TBDATE3 is its length since it’s the size of TBDATE1 + TBDATE2 together. This book was always going to be longer (and was actually SUPPOSED to be even longer!) because it’s not centered around a single day like its predecessors. And, more importantly, this novel covers the highs and lows of living when you’re also struggling with that very will to live, which I know a lot about.
This novel was painful and therapeutic to write, all 700+ pages. So yes, it IS sometimes that serious 💙

Writing sad books + seeing the OG Broadway play did not prepare me for the obliteration of WICKED: FOR GOOD 💚💖

Old TBDATE Signature vs. New TBDATE Signature
In 2017, shortly after TBDATE released, that was my third published novel and I was lucky enough to have more and more readers bringing all my books to events, so I shortened the signature to just my initials to sign faster. My wrist remains happy with this decision :)
P.S: I also hate markers! Give me a pen any day.

1) I’M FINE.
2) I’m walking to the gym right now because a) I like it and I haven’t been doing it lately, and B) I need to clear my head. Feeling the heaviness of life, work, other responsibilities.
3) I’ve spent the morning thinking about the efforts of Life. How brutal last year was, and how happy I am to have survived it. I even said as much to someone yesterday. But that doesn’t mean existing isn’t still hard, which I just published a whole-ass 700-plus page book about because I had a lot to say, and I still have so much more to say.
4) I wanted to put some of these thoughts out into the world because I’m someone who battles with being an aggressive open book (caused by hiding myself younger as a closeted teen) but also trying to hold some more of My Life closer to home. While trying to figure out what I could possibly express today to unload my heart, I just stumbled onto this wall art and it felt like the perfect reminder to share.
Mandatory, friends 💙

“Writing is showing up” + “everyone has 10 minutes” = two of our key takeaways from @writewithjolt’s first writing sprint between authors @arvinahmadi and @adamsilvera.
Here’s the breakdown of the video for those who couldn’t make it, but want to watch now:
Minutes 1-10: preparing for the writing sprint + what we’re working on.
Minutes 10-20: SPRINTING! Come sprint with us across time and space. People in the comments worked on short stories, novels, essays, and homework. What will you work on?
Minutes 20-end: our insights post-sprint, gems we wrote, and a look into our Jolt statistics.
More sprints on the way! 💙
