I’ve taken a pretty long break from putting out music. A few years ago, I went into a shaman-lead psychedelic trip on a whim, completely unprepared and ignorant to what it could possibly even be, that turned into a complete dismantling of my ego and reality. I went into a state of what some people would call psychosis for months on end (although I’m still a little unconvinced my perceptions at the time were wrong - maybe just half truths filtered through fear, that I wasn’t ready to accept). It caused panic attacks, intense anxieties, a cleithrophobia which made my job as a firefighter quite difficult for a while, and I lost a lot of my desire to pursue the things I had wanted to before. Fast forward a few years (and a bunch of healing work later) to this past January, and all of the mental health issues from that experience got re-triggered during a trip to the mountains in Peru. Something about the vastness of that environment, and feeling a bit physically unsafe, brought out the same feelings of being trapped. This time through my experience, instead of pulling away from everything, I found a lot of healing and peace through writing music. On October 24th, I’m putting out the first single from an album I’m working on with @thresholdrecordingstudio that is about a lot of this fear, coping mechanisms, growth, and healing. I wrote this first song during a dark moment, when I was trying to find proof of the light. I hope some of these songs can bring hope, or at least some proof of shared experience, to others that may be going through similar things.
