New Yorkš½, thank you šš¾
Thank you, @nyrr for another opportunity to be part of this extraordinary event. Being on the start line of the 2026 New York City Marathon was an honor, and I am grateful for the warm welcome you always give me.
Congratulations to @sheilachepkiruiken , @jesstonn , and @hellenobiri on your podium finishes, and to @edna.kiplagat on an amazing fourth place. These incredible women continue to inspire me, both as an athlete and as a woman. ā¤ļø
Ninth place wasnāt the result I came for. I prepared well and arrived believing I could compete for more. Unfortunately, lower back pain prevented me from executing my race plan and showing the work I had put in. I am disappointed but not broken. It hurts when your race doesnāt reflect your preparation. But I leave New York encouraged, with my spirit intact and my belief in what is still possible stronger than this setback. There is more in me, and I will keep working to bring it out.
To my family, my coach @haasruns ,management @ikaikasports ,sponsor @adidas my friends @lylysaina_ly and @shazrine , my wonderful husband @ngisirei_elias , teammates and everyone who continues to believe in me: thank you for standing beside me through every part of this journey. I want so much to make you proud, and your support means more than you know.
To my @tirops_angels family, I carry you in my heart every time I run. Thank you for believing in me and giving my miles a purpose beyond myself. I hope and pray that the next start line brings the performance I have been working toward.
New York, this is a thank you and a see you later. I will be back for more. ā¤ļø šø @eeoconsults

Dear Agnes ā¤ļø,
Happy heavenly birthday. Today, you would have been 31 years young.
I wish you were here. You should be here, breaking records, inspiring others through your journey, and living a life free from gender-based violence, a journey you had only just begun.
My friend, I wish October 13, 2021 had never happened. I curse that day, the day you left this earth through unimaginable suffering. It changed me. It changed your family and everyone who knew and loved you.
Despite everything I have been through, I have felt your presence. On the days when I felt lost, when I almost gave up and was on the verge of losing myself, you pulled me through. Thank you for reminding me why I needed to stay, especially when I needed those reminders most in 2024.
You reminded me that I still have work to do: to fight for justice for you and Agnes, I still need your help with that. To speak up for the women and girls whose lives have been taken by GBV. To stand beside those who are suffering and feel there is no way out.
I need to be here to share your story and help change lives. To challenge the cultural norms that allow abuse to be swept under the rug with words like, āWe fight and forgive each other.ā To remind our brothers and fathers that they too have a responsibility to end GBV. To push for laws that protect survivors and for those laws to be enforced.
We continue this work through Tiropās Angels, and I promise you that I will never give up. I will keep fighting for a world free from GBV, where our girls are safe in their own homes, at police stations, on their way to school, and with their partners.
A lot has happened in 5 years and I owe you an update on some great news. Tiropās Angels is doing great! We are finally going to have a safe house in your own community. Thank you to NYRR and our friends for believing in our work and helping make this dream a reality!
Agnes, it fills my heart to see the love people continue to show you through Tiropās Angels. Your perseverance and dedication will always inspire me to keep going.
I will NEVER give up.
Goodbye for now, my friend.
With love ā¤ļø,
Viola

Agnes Tirop was murdered just weeks after setting a World Record.
Her story is just 1 of so many women [Edith Muthoni, Damaris Muthee Mutua, and so many others] who are no longer here to because of the wider crisis; gender based violence. An issue that needs immediate attention in Kenya at every level.
Ibrahim Rotich needs to be found immediately and brought to justice to show that women are heard, not headlines.
@tirops_angels are doing an excellent job combat GBV, dismantle the harmful patriarchal systems in place, and support women and girls in distress. Any financial support there can provide a safehouse to those in serious trouble.
Rest in Peace Agnes Tirop.
Gone but never forgotten.

OUR FIRST-EVER GLOBAL VIRTUAL 5K! šš¾āāļøšš¾āāļø
Iām excited to invite you to Tiropās Angelsā first-ever Global Virtual 5K, raising funds to help us build a safe house for survivors of gender-based violence in Kenya.
This race was organized by my friend Julia SimmelkjƦr @juliasimmelkjaer , who visited us in Kenya earlier this year. She saw firsthand the work we do and the urgent need for a safe place for survivors.
For someone living in an abusive home, walking away is the first step, but where do they go next? Without a safe place to turn to, many may be forced to return to the same situation they are trying to escape.
That is why this 5K means so much to us.
Wherever you are in the world, you can be part of this! You can run or walk individually, with your family, friends, team, or running club. Every registration and every step brings us closer to creating a safe space where survivors can find protection, support and hope.
Join us and help us take another step toward ending gender-based violence in Kenya.
