We were absolutely delighted to welcome back last years Leaving Cert student, Anna Kearney, who brought the magnificent All-Ireland Camogie Trophy to share with us! 🏆
Anna was part of the Cork panel who were crowned All-Ireland Senior Camogie Champions after a thrilling victory over Galway, winning by just one point (2-14 to 0-19) in Croke Park back in August. We are also incredibly proud of our own teacher, Ms Duignan, who was also part of the victorious Cork panel. What an achievement for both Anna and Ms. Duignan, and indeed for the entire Cork team! You have made us all so proud. Congratulations to everyone involved on bringing the O’Duffy Cup back to Cork! 🏆🔴⚪️

Well done to the junior members of our General School Council, who took part in an invaluable training workshop with Pa Cotter and the team at the Scala Redemptorist Centre today.
The girls are already brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for the year ahead, and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to get to know one another and gel as a team.
We are really looking forward to seeing them bring their ideas to life and make a positive contribution to our school community over the coming year.
Many thanks to Pa Cotter and the Scala team for delivering such an engaging and worthwhile workshop!

Today, we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Damian Boylan, to Ursuline College Blackrock.
During his visit, the Lord Mayor highlighted the fantastic opportunities available to young people right here in Cork, encouraging students to make the most of our city when considering their futures. With two world-class universities on our doorstep, he reminded students that it is possible to build an international career without ever having to leave Cork! This is particularly relevant for our 6th Year students who are beginning to fill out their CAO application and make important decisions.
The theme for his term as Lord Mayor is Be Sound, a phrase that every Cork person will know and appreciate! Being sound is all about being respectful, understanding, friendly and kind to others. He spoke about the importance of being a good friend, showing respect and remembering that we don’t always have to take on the task of changing the world. Instead, it is the small, everyday acts of kindness that can make the biggest difference. These are values that strongly reflect the ethos of Ursuline College Blackrock.
We would like to sincerely thank Lord Mayor Cllr. Damian Boylan for taking the time to visit our school and share such an important message with our students. We wish him every success for the remainder of his term!

What a fantastic day we had at our annual Inter-House Halloween Costume Competition! 🎃It was a truly spooktacular event, with everyone getting into the Halloween spirit and showcasing their creativity, imagination and sense of fun. From Lego men to ballerinas, we were treated to an amazing variety of costumes, with plenty of laughs, surprises and spooky style along the way. A huge well done to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a memorable occasion.
Congratulations to all our worthy winners! In the Most Creative category, second place went to Yeva Bitkova, with first place awarded to Sienna Cacchione. In Most Random, congratulations to Emmi Fitzpatrick Collins for taking first place, while Ellie Leahy claimed first place in the most sustainable category with her fantastic costume made of old upcycled dresses. In the funniest costume category, second place went to Juliette and Gloria Lynch, while Julie Murphy and Clara Jacob McEvoy took home first place. For Best Group, Jodi and Leona impressed as Ant and Dec to secure second place, while first place went to the House of St. Julianna, who brought One Direction back to life with their brilliant group costume! Finally, in the Scariest Costume category, congratulations to Lynne O’Mahoney for securing second place and Virag Szatmari for taking first place!
To top off an already wonderful day, we were treated to a fantastic performance from a jazz band from the Netherlands, providing the perfect soundtrack to kick-start our midterm break. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, supported and helped organise this brilliant event. We hope everyone has a wonderful and well-deserved midterm break! 🎃

Yesterday evening, four of our Senior Cycle students competed in the first round of the UCC Philosophical Debating Competition. Kadidiata Diallo and Mia O’Regan (4th Year) were opposing the motion ‘TTHW preserve old buildings even at the cost of new housing’ while Ola Cioch and Ciara O’Brien (5th Year) were opposing the motion ‘THB mediocracy is an underrated life ambition’. Both teams delivered stirring speeches in a highly competitive environment. Congratulations to Kadi and Ciara, who have been selected to move on to the next round of the debates.

TY Physics students did a great job explaining light in class today! Using cardboard with matching holes, students proved that light only travels in straight paths. It was a simple experiment, but it made complete sense. 📐✨

A huge congratulations to TY students Laoise Corcoran and Renee Kavanagh Meaney who will represent UCB in the Social and Behavioural Sciences Category of the Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2027 with their project, ‘Does the difficulty of a country’s curriculum correlate with higher test performance of its students’.
Best wishes with your research Laoise and Renee!
