#SonyKandoTrip may have come to an end, but the creative energy is coming home with us. ✨📸 We are reminded that creativity grows when we connect, share ideas, learn from each other, and have people cheering us on along the way. 🧡 Still looking for your creative community? Come find your people in the @sonyalphafemale Facebook Community. 🔗 Join us through the link in bio! 29 Aug 2026 20 years ago, Sony launched the Sony Alpha camera line — and nothing has been the same since. What started with the Alpha DSLR-A100 in 2006 became a relentless pursuit of what a camera could be: faster, sharper, smarter, and more capable with every generation. Two decades of innovation driven by one thing — a community of photographers and filmmakers who demand more, and trust us to deliver. Thank you for focusing on what matters most — the art, the moments, the stories only you can tell. Here’s to a thrilling, momentous 20 years — and everything still to come. 📷 What was your first Sony Alpha camera? 👇 #SonyAlpha 05 Jun 2026 HOW I EDIT MY UNDERWATER PHOTOS 🐋 This is just a glimpse into my underwater editing process. In reality, I can spend hours fine-tuning blue hues and adjusting masks—but I hope this gives you a helpful starting point. Here are a few of my favorite tips for editing underwater images: 1. DEHAZE + CLARITY — The first thing I adjust when editing underwater images is dehaze and clarity. Water naturally reduces contrast and sharpness, so these tools help bring back some of that crispness and detail. Just be careful not to overdo it! 2. BLUES — Don’t be afraid to play around with your blues! I like mine to be a rich, deep blue—not quite purple, but not quite turquoise, either. I aim for a natural look with a little enhancement, but I love seeing how creative people get with their color grading. There’s so much room to experiment! 3. MASKING — Masking is my absolute favorite editing tool and, in my opinion, one of the most important. I use it to isolate my subject and adjust its exposure and color independently from the surrounding water. Underwater, subjects can take on a strong blue or green color cast, so I often use masking to bring back some of the reds and yellows that can get lost, helping the subject look more natural. These are just a few of the adjustments I make—but often every image is different! Underwater editing is definitely a process of experimenting and finding what works best for your image. Happy editing! p.s. if you’re looking for support, encouragement, and an incredible photography community, go check out the @sonyalphafemale Facebook page! It’s been such a valuable resource for me and has played a huge part in my growth as a photographer. 05 Nov 2026 Congratulations to our “Taking Flight” theme micro-grant winner, Holly Kirkland! 🦩📸 Holly captured a moment of lesser flamingos soaring over the stunning landscapes of Lakes Natron and Magadi. Shooting from an open helicopter, she took this week’s theme to new heights—literally! Talk about seeing the world from a fresh perspective. Holly shares, “Some of nature’s most extraordinary layers of beauty reveal themselves only from above.” 05 Nov 2026 Congratulations to our “Autumn” theme micro-grant winner, Nicole Zelkowitz! 🍂📸 During a week-long trip, Nicole traveled through Switzerland, exploring Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and St. Moritz in search of beautiful fall scenery. Despite rain nearly every day, brief moments of sunset sunshine gave her chances to capture the changing season. Her winning shot came from Grindelwald, where just 15–20 minutes of sunlight revealed a colorful horizon against the autumn landscape. Nicole shares, “I was actually shocked the horizon was clear enough to give some color.” A beautiful reminder that even when the weather doesn't cooperate, a little patience and the right moment of light can make all the difference! 🍁 03 Nov 2026 Congratulations to our “Starry Sky” theme micro-grant winner, Violetta Scott! 🌌📸 Creating this image took dedication, including three alarms throughout the night to capture the changing sky and blue hour, a few unexpected encounters with coyotes, and several days of careful editing to bring out the subtle colors and details of the Milky Way. Violetta shares, “Bleached Entrada sandstone spires, bone-dry ground, not a living thing in sight. It could pass for another planet.” 02 Nov 2026 Congratulations to our “Landscape” theme micro-grant winner, Tracey Halladay! 🏔️📸 Tracey captured a Sunburst in British Columbia’s Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. Reaching this breathtaking view wasn't easy, requiring a challenging 17-kilometer hike through autumn forests, past three lakes, and up a steep climb before sunset. Tracey shares, “This was a hard hike for me. 17 km through fall forests, past 3 lakes, and then climbing up, up, up to reach our destination before sunset. But well worth it!” 28 Oct 2026 One of my favorite ways to enhance my photos is by intentionally cropping. Being mindful about what you keep and what you choose to crop out can completely change the way a photo tells its story. Here are some tips for next time you want to experiment! - Crop into the details: Fill the frame with an eye, a texture, or a subtle expression to create intimacy and draw attention to details that might otherwise go unnoticed. - Use negative space intentionally: Leave extra room in front of a subject that’s looking or moving in a particular direction to create a sense of space and movement. - Experiment with placement: Try positioning your subject off-center rather than placing it directly in the middle. A small adjustment can create a more dynamic composition. - Eliminate distractions: Crop out bright spots, clutter, or competing elements along the edges that pull attention away from your subject. - Change the aspect ratio: Try a tighter vertical crop for impact or a wider horizontal crop to emphasize the environment and atmosphere. Try multiple different crops, and don’t be afraid to do something unconventional! You might just fall in love with your photo all over again by seeing it in a whole new way. The beauty of photographing fall leaves? You don’t need golden hour! There are wonderful photo opportunities at any time of day. I’m sharing 10 tips to help you slow down, explore different techniques, and see autumn a little differently. Swipe through and read each slide’s caption for more tips and inspiration! For more photography tips and a supportive community of women photographers, join us in the @sonyalphafemale Facebook group! Experiment with intentional camera movement (ICM), multiple exposures, or intentionally out-of-focus images to create abstract effects. My go-to starting point for ICM is a shutter speed of 1/10 second. Look for an interesting focal point and use surrounding leaves to naturally frame it. This helps draw the viewer’s eye to your subject while adding depth and color to your composition. Use a telephoto lens to compress the scene and bring layers of colorful leaves closer together. It’s a great way to create depth and fill your frame with beautiful fall color. Use a little extra light to bring out the beautiful colors, textures, and tiny details in fall leaves. I love using a macro light to illuminate my subject and help it stand out from the background. Look for small pockets of light filtering through the trees and illuminating individual leaves. These little spotlights can make colors glow and create beautiful contrast against darker backgrounds. Look for reflections in puddles, slow-moving creeks, ponds, or any calm water. I’ve found that sunny days often produce the most beautiful reflections, bringing out the vibrant colors of the leaves and creating interesting compositions. Try and find interesting shadows cast by leaves, especially on sunny days. Play with the shapes, patterns, and contrast they create to add another dimension to your fall photos. Head out after a windy or rainy day when freshly fallen leaves are scattered across the ground. Their vibrant colors and beautiful textures make great subjects, especially before they begin to dry out and fade. Because mothers often keep their little ones safely tucked away, even a brief glimpse felt special. She shares, “While creating this image, I wanted to highlight the closeness and tenderness between them.” 09 Oct 2026
