repost from @blueelephantbeats The Pretenders “The Wait” Alright Now, Tyne Tees Television, Newcastle upon Tyne, July 10, 1980 In the summer of 1978, Pete Farndon persuaded guitarist James Honeyman-Scott to come down from Hereford and meet an American singer named Chrissie Hynde. Honeyman-Scott had been working in a music shop and growing vegetables, and initially found the new band far too loud. They recorded a demo featuring “The Wait,” which Hynde had written with Farndon, and took it to her old friend Nick Lowe. He preferred their cover of the Kinks’ “Stop Your Sobbing” and agreed to produce it as a single, with “The Wait” on the reverse. The recording took one day. The following morning, the Pretenders travelled to Paris for their first concerts at the Gibus club. They later recorded a new version of “The Wait” with producer Chris Thomas for their debut album. Years later, Hynde remembered watching bassist T.M. Stevens play “The Wait” and feeling that something was missing. Stevens was an exceptionally accomplished musician who could navigate the song effortlessly, unlike Farndon, whose fingers sometimes bled from the effort of playing. Hynde felt that the struggle had been part of the original performance. She finally asked Stevens to play the song using just one finger. Suddenly, he had to work for every note, and Hynde recognised the quality she had been missing. She later recalled that making music look too easy could take away some of its excitement. iiii]; )' 05 Nov 2026

repost from @codyjackhenderson Epic story time: right before show 1 at Hollywood Bowl, the neck pickup on Joe's 59 Les Paul lost half of its output! We decided not to use it in show 1, and the next day, George Alessandro himself (who provided us a great amp for the show) took me to our good friends at Seymour Duncan to diagnose and repair the neck pickup! MJ is an absolute legend of pickup making and repair. She personally builds all our pickups, for Dazzles, and whatever other guitars we are working on at the time. Of the six guitars we used for the entire Bowl run, she built the pickups for three of the guitars we used, and worked on this one. It only took a handful of winds to find the break. She carefully reassembled the pickup, and off we went! Joe played it on Come Together on night two, and we had a nice reunion with our friend Slash! Thanks so much to Zack Cramp, George, MJ, and everyone at Seymour Duncan for saving this historic pickup and making the show happen!! iiii]; )' 03 Nov 2026
