My name is Seph Lawless. I’m a rogue photojournalist that explores the most abandoned places in the world. 02 May 2024 This isn’t social media, it’s a social movement—Please share. SL 14 Aug 2025 Please share. 07 Aug 2025 Thirty days. That’s all France has left before a legal deadline affecting two orcas abandoned in a closed marine park. And what just happened inside the French National Assembly changes everything. 100 days ago, I launched a petition demanding a definitive relocation plan for Wikie and Keijo, two orcas still trapped inside the shuttered Marineland park in Antibes, France. Today, over 157,000 people have signed that petition. And I made every one of you a promise. I said I would personally deliver your signatures to members of the French National Assembly. And in October, I did exactly that. I traveled to France, met with dozens of lawmakers, and brought your voices directly into the halls of government. And then something extraordinary happened. Thirty-seven French deputies co-signed an amendment proposing €15 million to establish a marine refuge, explicitly citing Wikie and Keijo. For the first time in this campaign, we were seeing a concrete proposal for public funding reach the French parliamentary process. But before I even made it back to the United States, that amendment was REJECTED. Not by a vote of the full National Assembly. By its Finance Committee. France helped create this crisis. And now, with the legal deadline approaching, these two orcas still have no confirmed permanent home. There is no excuse for this continued failure to act. But here’s what I want everyone to understand. I’ve said it from the very beginning: This isn’t just social media. This is a social movement. What started as a social media post became a petition. That petition united more than 157,000 people. Those voices reached the French National Assembly. And now, a proposal to fund a marine refuge has entered the political debate. That is the power of collective action. But our work is far from finished. With just 30 days remaining, this is not the moment to go silent. This is the moment to get louder. Wikie and Keijo don’t have a voice in the French National Assembly. But 157,000 of us do. — SL 04 Nov 2026 Wikie and her son, Keijo, are France’s last captive orcas. They have remained at a marine park closed to the public for more than 600 days. ㅤ As concerns grow about the condition of the park’s aging pools, more than 120,000 people have signed @sephlawless's petition calling on French authorities to act urgently and secure a safe, transparent relocation plan for the mother and son. ㅤ Comment "link" below to read or sign. ㅤ #orcas #animals #france #wikieandkeijo 21 Sep 2026 Wikie and her son Keijo, the last two captive orcas in France, have spent their entire lives at Marineland Antibes. The park closed in January 2025 amid declining attendance and a French law phasing out whale and dolphin performances and captivity, but the two orcas remain there. ㅤ Most of the park’s veterinary staff and animal caregivers have reportedly been dismissed since the closure, though officials say a reduced crew continues to provide basic care. ㅤ Photojournalist @sephlawless has spent months documenting Wikie and Keijo and started a petition calling on France to secure a safe, transparent relocation plan. More than 91,000 people have signed, urging independent veterinary oversight and asking that mother and son remain together unless experts determine otherwise. ㅤ To sign the petition, comment “link” below. ㅤ #Orcas #Animals 09 Sep 2026 #ad | 100 DAYS TO SAVE. PETITION WILL BE DIRECTLY SENT TO: Mathieu Lefèvre, France’s Minister Delegate for Ecological Transition SEPH LAWLESS | @changedotorg 19 Aug 2026 Today, we made history by saving 30 whales from being euthanized Under the haze of the Canadian wildfires are 30 abandoned whales trapped inside Marineland. This is the last footage captured of the 30 beluga whales before being rescued. From the beginning my goal was to use social media to create social change and today it was announced all beluga will be safely transported out to US facilities. Six of them were removed today 4 to the Shedd aquarium in Chicago and 2 to the seaworld in Texas The remaining 24 whales will move in additional groups over the coming weeks after each one is medically cleared for travel. I was told my veterinary staff that the whales were accompanied by them the entire transfer and arrived safely. I know some of you might not view this as an ideal solution but it is the only viable option. Many whales have died here and these whales would have suffered the same fate even the experts handling this removal have told me that this isn’t being treated as a transfer but rather an emergency evacuation— the largest whale transfer in history. The overall rescue plan is: * 10 total → Shedd Aquarium (Chicago) * 13 total → SeaWorld San Antonio * 3 total → SeaWorld San Diego * 2 total → Georgia Aquarium * 2 total → Oceanogràfic València, Spain (pending final veterinary clearance and permits) This isn’t social media. It’s a social movement. Thank you all for participating. — SL 22 Jul 2026 In a herd, be the black sheep. —SL 19 May 2026 ✨20 years ago today I was hired to walk into the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina with my camera—what I saw never left me. Entire neighborhoods erased, lives uprooted, and a city abandoned long before the storm ever hit. I’ll never forget walking through the haunting silence of Six Flags, past a rusting sign that still reads ‘Closed for the storm.’ It never reopened… just like so many communities that were left behind. That devastation shaped me not just as an artist, but as an activist—bc some storms aren’t natural, they’re man-made, born from neglect and indifference.✨ — SL 29 Aug 2025 The mother orca appears dead — her body floating motionless in murky water beside her son. But this wasn’t the ocean. These whales were left behind inside a closed, defunct marine park in France. This was all that remained when the crowds disappeared and the park closed forever. But then… she moved. Looking straight up at my drone — curious, gentle, almost relieved. After all this time, they weren’t alone anymore. It was as if they recognized me — as if hope itself had come back to visit. What happened next was heartbreaking and beautiful. The two began to perform — as if remembering what it meant to be seen. They started to move — slowly at first, then with joy. Leaping, twirling, performing the only language they were ever taught… but this time, there was no crowd. Just me …and their longing to be free. Their bodies cut through the still water like memories coming back to life — spinning, rising, falling — as if the ghosts of applause still echoed somewhere in their minds. They still have hope and their story isn’t over, unless we let it. To the 55 million people who shared my posts — our voices have already sent waves crashing against the French government. Since the videos my viral, the French government has publicly said they’re now fully engaged. This is the moment we push even harder. Please share their voices with the entire world. — SL Journal Entry [ October 26, 2025 ] 29 Oct 2025
