I'm joining in with the @pedddleuk Christmas Campaign this year
The message is simple, instead of focusing on how much we buy, let's try to think about what we buy and where it comes from?
Choosing fewer, better quality gifts from independent makers and businesses means supporting real people, their skills, creativity and livelihoods. But it does a whole lot more too:
💵 spending your money locally keeps more of it circulating in your local economy.
☮️ choosing quality goods is safer. Forget about all the banned chemicals and dangerous toys that will break before new years.
🤔 buying handmade shows thought and consideration has gone into the gift, and shows you care far more than another 3 for 2 gift set!
♻️ choosing quality is better for the environment, most small handmade businesses like mine take huge pride in our ethical and sustainable practices.
I hope you will join us: buy less, buy better and shop small this Christmas! 🎄🎁♥️

Even if it’s a couple more gifts that you buy more consciously and ‘buy less, but buy better’!

Stallholders - this is a bugbear of mine! Here’s why.
A customer at your stall is directed to scan a QR code to go to your website, but why?
They are there with you, and you are giving them a way out. They can tell you they will buy it online, but they probably won’t. That’s a barrier - not a helpful tool in that moment. Certain instances might overrule this, but not many!
My next bugbear is a QR code to a social media platform. I get it, less paper, you are doing your bit, but could it be hurting your business? Once again they are not your customers UNLESS you follow up every follower and engage with them in DM’s. If you just let them follow you, your whole business lies in the hands of the algorithm showing them your posts. Let’s face it, not that likely.
In my opinion the best option is to find a great hook to get them onto your email list. Then they are your customer, you can direct them to your socials and your website. You can tell them your story. Show them your lovely products and be in front of the right people.
I would love to know your take on this? Maybe you haven’t thought about it like this.

Days like today shows us how fragile our market system can be when severe storms shut markets. The impact is greater than we see outside, the Stallholders that don’t make money and the lasting affect on them, those that prepped compostables like food that can’t be sold. These are just a couple of examples.
Please make mindful decisions where you can to shop from micro businesses within the U.K. 🙏

You know what you’ve got to do!!
Sadly this market (@treaclemarket) and many other this weekend are affected by Storm Austen but you can look on Pedddle and find those events still open, indoor events or look for stallholders near you and shop direct.
