How can you tell if your child has allergies or just keeps catching colds? 🤧
It's a common question for parents, especially when sneezing, congestion and runny noses seem to never end.
MUSC Children's Health allergist Dr. Maria Streck shares what parents should know about environmental allergies, including common triggers, symptoms to watch for and when testing may help.

Dr. Madeline Leo’s work brings her together with surgeons, oncologists and other specialists from across MUSC.
Her favorite part? The kids she gets to care for!
As an interventional radiologist, she uses imaging to guide minimally invasive treatments for many different conditions, with much of her practice focused on procedures in the MUSC Vascular Anomalies Program.
There, she helps children with conditions such as blood vessels that haven’t formed normally, providing specialized care for families who travel from across South Carolina.

A behind-the-scenes look at 7-year-old Declan’s experience at MUSC. 💙
His photos take us from hospital hallways and medical testing to some time outside in the garden and a visit with one of our pet therapists.
What started as a follow-up appointment led to five days at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.
With a rare genetic disorder that makes finding answers about his health difficult, Declan’s mom Shannon appreciated having doctors who listened to her concerns and considered his full medical history.
“They looked at my ENTIRE child and not just who he was in that moment!”

There was a pretty important job to do at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital last night! ❤️
Four Heart Center patients stepped up to the big red switch and helped light the Angel Tree, officially kicking off the holiday season.
Families, care team members and volunteers gathered for the annual celebration, which also marked the start of another year supporting The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
For 23 years, MUSC has helped fulfill holiday wish lists for children across the Lowcountry.
“It’s a beautiful way to show the generosity of us coming together to do something for the greater good,” said Melissa Kubu with MUSC Volunteer Services.

Are your kids still working their way through their Halloween candy? 🍬
Before they grab another treat, there are a few safety reminders worth keeping in mind!
For children with food allergies, it's important to check ingredient labels carefully and avoid candy with unknown ingredients. And for younger kids, hard candies, lollipops and certain sticky treats can pose choking hazards.
Dr. Justin Fox with MUSC Health Primary Care in the Midlands recently spoke with @wistv10 about food allergy safety and shared some helpful tips for families.

Our patients and care teams really showed up for Halloween this year!
We've seen some pretty creative costumes around MUSC Children's Health this week, and the fun didn't stop there.
Our annual Child Life Halloween Carnival, Heart Center parade and even a visit from Frampton and Clark Construction to decorate hard hat jack-o'-lanterns with patients were all part of the festivities.
And judging by these photos, our care teams had just as much fun dressing up as the kids did!
Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the week.
Happy Halloween! 🧡

Sometimes, all it takes is someone making sure a family knows what’s possible.
For many children at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, Tiombe Plair has helped make that connection. As a social worker with our Cancer & Blood Disorders team, she gets to know the families she works with and looks for ways to help them, including connecting eligible children with Make-A-Wish South Carolina.
Over the years, 174 children Tiombe has referred have gone on to qualify for a wish, giving them something exciting to look forward to outside of treatment.
Make-A-Wish South Carolina recently recognized Tiombe as a Wish Champion, and we’re so excited to celebrate her together!
