🔴 More than two and a half years of global inaction has allowed the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza to persist.
The Prime Minister @andy.burnham and Foreign Secretary @ed_miliband have taken some welcome steps towards upholding the UK's responsibility to act under International Humanitarian Law, but it's not enough.
We thank them for showing moral leadership and would like to meet to discuss further steps the UK Government should take to uphold fully its obligations to act under International Humanitarian Law to protect all civilians in Gaza.

🔴 Ebola disease is all over the news right now. But what is it?
Here's some of the key information you need to know about Ebola disease and the current outbreak in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

🔴 Three years of war in Sudan. Five shocking numbers.
What began on 15 April 2023 has become what has has been called the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Over 33 million people in Sudan are now trapped by violence, displacement, hunger, and disease, with aid blocked when it’s needed most.
As the crisis deepens, the need for humanitarian action and political solutions has never been more urgent.

Safe water shouldn’t be a daily struggle. In Gaza, it is.
Israeli restrictions on spare parts, fuel, and engine oil, along with the systematic destruction of water infrastructure, are blocking the repair of critical water systems. People are being deprived of something they need to survive.
A year after the so-called ceasefire, violence continues across the Strip. Every day, MSF clinics treat patients with injuries from shootings, including people hit in their tents and in their homes.
Even under a supposed ceasefire, nowhere is safe in Gaza.

Kasoki Zawadi spent 12 hours a day in a corridor, talking to her husband through a plexiglass window.
Victoire spent 23 days in an Ebola treatment centre in Butembo, DRC. A negative test gave the couple hope, then a second test came back positive. Through it all, MSF psychologists were there to listen, explain the care and help them keep going.
Ebola affects more than the body. Fear, isolation and uncertainty weigh on patients and families, and the stigma can follow survivors home. That’s why MSF teams provide mental health support from admission through recovery.

The UK Government has reopened the refugee resettlement scheme with the promise of prioritising Palestinians as well as Afghan women and girls.
While we welcome any new safe pathway for refugees, this scheme will help only a very small number of people - nowhere near the scale of need. It also won’t help people actually living in Palestine or Afghanistan.
Join us in calling on the Government to create more safe routes to the UK to prevent the avoidable physical and mental harm that occurs when people risk their lives making dangerous journeys and have to navigate a hostile asylum system (link in bio).

🔴MSF calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Dr Mohammed Obeid, and his reunification with his family.
Two years ago, Dr Obeid was arrested while providing life-saving care at Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza. He is still detained, without charge or trial.
An orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Obeid was one of the few left in the north of Gaza. He has been held in harsh conditions with no direct contact with his family. His only link to the outside world is his lawyer, whose visits are rare.
Dr Obeid is not alone. Israel continues to arbitrarily detain dozens of healthcare workers from Gaza. Under International Humanitarian Law, medical personnel are protected and must not be punished for carrying out their duties.
Gaza needs its doctors. Many children need urgent orthopaedic care, and around 6,000 amputees need long-term rehabilitation.
Release Dr Obeid. Release all medical staff.

📸 Just a snapshot of our work around the world in October.
1. An MSF flag marks a health post in the Busuma refugee camp in Burundi. The camp is facing a critical shortage of humanitarian support, and some organisations risk having to withdraw by the end of the year due to a lack of funding.
2. 100 days after the earthquake in Venezuela, Virginia, an MSF community worker, walks through lines of destroyed buildings during outreach activities and health promotion sessions in the Playa Grande area.
3. In the DRC, Kasoki supports her husband, Victoire, who is infected with Ebola virus. Kasoki and Victoire are separated by a window, but she stays by his side from 6.30 am to 6.30 pm every day.
4. An MSF RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) carries people rescued in the Mediterranean Sea.
5. 11-year-old Rahaf drew a picture of life in Gaza. It depicts tents, homes being targeted, a water truck and injured people.
6. An MSF healthcare worker carries out a consultation with a displaced person amid escalating violence in central Mali.
7. An MSF psychologist talks with other staff members in the sub-district hospital in Sopore, Kashmir.

So, what does MSF do?
We’re a medical humanitarian organisation, and we’ve been going where people need care most since 1971. That includes conflict zones, disease outbreaks, natural disasters and places where healthcare is out of reach.
We’re independent and impartial. We go where the need is greatest, whoever someone is and whatever they believe. And when we see people in danger, we speak out.
Hear our student supporters explain it in their own words.

Dr Ameera Alazar, a Palestinian medical doctor, spoke to us about how treating patients in Gaza impacted her perception of what it means to be a doctor and work in healthcare.
A young girl who had lost both legs asked how she could be discharged without new legs. In times of war and scarce resources, you often work to save lives and treat the immediate issue. But medicine should really be about enabling a patient to live with dignity, including through prosthetics, rehabilitation or any ongoing care they need.
With resources so limited relative to the scale of the need, healthcare workers in Gaza are unable to provide the level of care they are committed to giving their patients.
