✏️As our conversation winds to a close, Schafer remembers being a young kid at a friend’s birthday party. She was invited to join in with a choreographed dance, but was so cripplingly aware of how she was being viewed, it wasn’t fun. “I was so shy and so scared to dance in front of other kids, I was crying. I was so nervous and scared,” she says. “I still did it, trying to smile, but I kept being like, ‘No.’ I think that’s what I was at my core before this job broke me open.”
She says she was “just a baby” when she first got the role in Euphoria that changed her life. “I was a different person in a lot of ways. I was really introverted and not set on performing in front of people at all. There was this shell that was there that’s not with me anymore.” I like this image of Schafer, like Botticelli’s Venus emerging from her shell, newly born but fully grown, finally in a body that feels like hers and ready to slay.

New job, vest tops, girlie pop, hot nights. Sea swimming, solar eclipse, endless joyful holiday parenting of a fiercly free spirit. Friends, family, funtimes…exhausted and enlivened by it all at the same time. Back to school vibes incoming. 😎➡️🤓

After too-long a hiatus I’m back doing what I love, editing a magazine! ✏️

I’ll never forget going to the corner shop with my bestie when we were 14 in the mid 90s so he could casually reach for the top shelf to buy his first copy of Gay Times. It opened the door to a wonderful world we’ve belonged to ever since. How far we’ve come since then. But there’s still so far to go. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

Primavera 2026 - watching my beautiful cousin @romyromyromy headline on Saturday night with @thexx alongside @viclentaigne and our friends and family was the perfect way to kickstart the summer and who better to be by my side than the ultimate good vibes wingman, our little bro @luisantoniodagua. Top tip - go on holiday with a 22-year-old, I’ve actually never laughed so hard. ☀️

She downs it and orders another, and then another, at an after party that only ends when she reaches rock bottom, the overhead lights are turned on and she realises, finally, it’s time to go home.”
(such a pleasure to spend an hour with Lena I knew we’d hit it off but I didn’t expect her to be this emotionally generous. Her book is KILLER. You should read it 💯)

If you’ve been watching the news, scrolling your feed, or generally not living under a rock, you’ll know why this book needs to be read, shared and shouted about - urgently.
We wrote it because conversations about queer lives have become battlegrounds. People are talking about us more than listening. Curiosity is being framed as dangerous, while ignorance is rewarded with airtime. And as queer people we also asked ourselves if we really knew enough about the intersections of our community. Could we do better?
This book is about gender, sexuality, labels, love, chosen family, shame, desire, femininity, protest, power, ageing, religion, masculinity, happiness and so much more.
We explore these topics with much needed nuance, leaving room for awkward questions and refusing the usual culture-war script.
It’s for the parent who wants to understand their queer child. For the friend who’s scared of saying the wrong thing. The queer reader who wants to feel seen. The ally who wants to move beyond rainbow capitalism and into real solidarity. The curious person who believes conversation is still possible.
We called the book Do Ask, Do Tell because silence helps no one and we believe good faith questions are not an attack, they’re an opening.
