Dance was my first passion. And then it became my healer through harder times alongside my music. But being a struggling musician for so long, dance soon took over as my therapist, in the night clubs. That’s where I really fell in love with house music and the underground dance scene in NY. The lyrics of this song are about that time in my life, where after a long day or week, I would go to the club either alone or with friends and dance off all my pain and struggles. It truly got me through the hard times and I reflect on it a lot; how effective and efficient it was at moving the stress out of my system and taking me back to balance. Even on days where I barely had motivation to go out, when I did, it was always worth it. And then there were so many of those days where I truly couldn’t be bothered and just dance around my little walk-in closet sized room until my body and mind recovered. It’s not a myth that dance is healing. I don’t know where I would be today if I didn’t dance my way through so much pain. I posted this over two years ago and the gram took away my ability to comment on other posts for nearly two weeks and heavily shadow banned my account for a long time. I lost friends, followers, lost a best friend, lost gigs, lost a relationships, had to make another account to have a voice without losing the ability to reach any of my musical audience. Even before this, a few years back, I was removed from a tour I was opening for after the security guard called me and asked me to fire one of my crew members for their own personal activism and I refused. And that wasn’t even public. That decision didn’t just cost me money, it put me into debt and it took years to recover. Smaller artists can be silenced a lot easier than the bigger ones and yet so few of the biggest artists are standing up. The past few days have been hopeful, seeing musicians coming together to take a stand. When people unite they can make a difference, as we have been seeing with @macklemore and all the artists that came together in response to him being removed from the Ed Sheeran tour. There’s no neutral when it comes to g3nocide. I heard a friend of mine say “the world no longer needs entertainers, it needs artists.
