Halloween vibes! For a fun and problem-free spooktacular holiday, here are 4 little tips we follow… *Keep those candy goodies and packaging out of your best buddy’s reach. No one wants an after hours trip to the overpriced emergency vet. *Watch out for chocolate and xylitol, both of which are toxic to dogs. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that can cause drastic blood sugar drops and liver failure. *To reduce stress and anxiety for socially triggered canines, like mine, keep them in a separate room or crate during peak trick-or-treat hours… if you happen to be one of those folk who answers the door. 😂💀 *Only dress your dog in Halloween costumes if they enjoy it. Forcing an anxious pup into a tight, confining or uncomfortable ensemble isn’t a treat for anyone. Dog training made simple… some of the most challenging rally signs for us have improved by practicing in places like Home Depot. Points Of Inspiration… As I’ve learned since Storm and I started training, the dog sports road is a very bumpy one, filled with many detours, wrong turns, near misses and accidents… including actual accidents in the ring. 💦💩 Experiencing repeated disappointments, setbacks and seemingly insurmountable issues can drain the joy and deplete the dedication from even the most determined, leading many folk to quit training. We were at that point on a daily basis. What stopped us from peacing out was focusing on something that went right… no matter how small… and using that as a point of inspiration. Now when we hit a stumbling block or doubt our ability to accomplish a new goal, the first thing I do is look at these 4 pics… our 3 AKC Rally High Triple QQQ / High Combined QQ Awards and getting our RACH (AKC Rally Championship). None of these magical moments were on our bingo card when Storm was maniacally running zoomies, sniffing the floor like a canine Hoover, mindlessly wandering, freezing catatonically or relieving herself in the ring. Persevering through the perils is what made them possible. No matter what problems you’re having, if you love playing with your partner in the competition ring, don’t quit. Possibly our best CPE Agility Standard Level 5 run so far… getting a Q and a blue plus 14 seconds under time! A game changer attention exercise for us is ‘Simulated Start’ … where we pretend like we’re starting a rally run, saying ‘Ready Forward Heel’ wherever we go.
