Book covers I’ve illustrated! It’s so fun seeing them together like this. All the typography was added by my amazing art directors. While I can vary my style to some extent, the typography does so much to distinguish each series and communicate the genre and vibe of each book. Book covers are my favorite type of job! The reader in me just thinks it’s SO cool, and it’s such an honor whenever I’m asked to illustrate a cover. They also tend to be the most collaborative projects. All of these covers are jointly created by me and my ADs, incorporating ideas from authors and editors. It’s a great feeling to work on something that others are highly invested in as well. I’m very grateful to all my ADs for hiring me onto these projects!! Throwback to one my favorite pieces I’ve ever made, a tribute to Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being In Love. Still my favorite romance read, and I will loyally read anything else @brigitteknightley puts out. (Just caught up on the Dearly Beloathed series!) Marwyn, the Clearcutter | Marwyn, the Preserver for Magic: The Gathering - Reality Fracture Still can’t believe I was trusted with one of the diptychs on this set, that’s crazy but thank you!!! This was such a cool challenge, trying to make one half feel red-aligned and the other half green-aligned while keeping the overall image cohesive. In addition to carefully controlling the color placement, I also used opposing shape language for the two halves. Left side sharp spiky! Right side curvy flowy! This was my entry to the @foliosociety competition, illustrating a scene from Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It didn’t make the shortlist, but I loooved working on this piece, and it’s one of my favorites from this year! I really enjoyed the book, and as soon as I finished reading it I knew exactly which scene I had to draw from ch 1. One of my main goals for this piece was to just enjoy the process, so I let myself keep it loose and stop as soon as I felt like the piece was working.
