On the Isle of Wight, in a weatherswept week of January 2026, Rich Ruth, Dom Billet, Erin Rae, and Spencer Cullum flew over from Nashville, Harry Bohay traveled in from London, and Max followed from Brighton for a mammoth recording session in Chale Studio, located in one of the oldest buildings on the Island. Formed of ten beautifully colourful songs that sing to a shared love of 70s British folk songs, acid-folk oddities, and vintage children’s television soundtracks, the Banquet Rock LP weaves together bright vocal flourishes with baroque-leaning instrumentation. Pressed to Twilight Purple Marbled Vinyl, Banquet Rock is a must have for anyone needing to banish the winter spirits. Which records have shaped the way you make music? For Jeffrey Silverstein and Bobby Lee, their Big 3 is all about inspiration. From laid-back guitar rock to swampy soul and the psychedelic sounds that helped lay the groundwork for country rock, these are three records they keep coming back to. Kurt Vile, Wakin on a Pretty Daze. For Jeffrey, Kurt Vile has been a major influence on the way he plays guitar, sings and approaches lyrics. Released in 2013, this sprawling double album lets songs wander, guitars stretch out and melodies unfold at their own pace. The opening track runs for over nine minutes, but never feels in a hurry. Jeffrey loves that Vile stays true to himself and makes music entirely on his own terms. One record that turned an already big fan into a lifelong follower. Priscilla, Gypsy Queen. Some records take years to find, and this one was a 15-year search for Bobby. Released in 1970, Gypsy Queen blends country funk, swampy soul and folk rock. Bobby had been living with a less-than-great MP3 of opening track On the Road for years, so finally finding a copy was a pretty special moment. And guess what? He found it at Bengans while browsing our store! The Byrds, The Notorious Byrd Brothers. A shared favourite that helped shape both musicians’ sound. Released in 1968, the album captures The Byrds at a fascinating crossroads, where psychedelic rock began drifting towards the country rock sound they would explore further on Sweetheart of the Rodeo. It features Wasn’t Born to Follow, later heard in Easy Rider, and marks an early appearance by guitarist Clarence White with the band. Even the cover has a story: a horse appears in one of the windows where David Crosby might have been, following his departure from the group.
