TELL YOUR SENATOR AND @martinheinrichnm and @senwhitehouse HARD NO on S. 5653 Check out @nycploverproject @friendsoftheinyo @welc_org for GREAT action alerts and talking points but I’d focus on: 🦉this bill is a giveaway of public lands to AI data centers and oil and gas. It gives them new unprecedented power to sue for being treated “unfairly” by the permitting agencies and the public will owe them money for stalled or stopped projects! 🦇It weakens the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and NEPA. 🌊 It removes meaningful public input and makes consulting tribes optional. 🐸 Why would you pass this when we’ve just made clear the public wants environmental change and no more data centers, right before a democratic return to power in Washington? 🦊 While we’re at it ask for this, which I love from @morethanjustparks because we’re in a season of DEMANDING what we want: “Hire the biologists, foresters, hydrologists, and planners who do these reviews and the archaeologists, GIS specialists, and administrative staff who keep them moving. Pay them, train them, keep them, and treat them like the public servants they are. A few weeks ago @cat.bohannon and I were walking down the street in Brooklyn and she said something to me like, “It can be difficult to explain to people that for a specific cohort of sex-obsessed scholars, a pilgrimage to this lab at Mount Holyoke to hold a latex animal vagina mold is a nonnegotiable pilgrimage” and just a short week or two later I went to see Mother at Morphology Mecca and iykyk!!
