In September 1940, during the Battle of Britain, Czech pilot Josef Kopriva was flying with the RAF when his Hurricane was hit by enemy fire. Faced with a damaged aircraft, he attempted to bring it down away from nearby homes, risking his own life to protect those on the ground.
His survival, and the two remarkable letters he later received from people whose lives had been spared, tell a story of courage, humanity and the lives touched by those who served.
This Remembrance, we remember Flight Lieutenant Josef Kopriva and all those who served, fought and sacrificed in the defence of our freedom.
Lest we forget.
Thank you @dcmsgovuk @iwmlondon and @royalairforceuk for allowing me the opportunity to share his story.

Putting communities at the heart of decision-making is vital. 🩷
And that’s what the Youth Sector Development Partnership will do – backed by £17.8 million from The National Lottery Community Fund and DCMS.
Speaking with youth workers during a visit on Monday, Vicky Foxcroft MP shared her enthusiasm for the future of this partnership – which will help ensure youth workers and organisations have the leadership, expertise and support needed to respond to local challenges and help young people thrive.
