Consistency will always trump Intensity. It’s something I talk about in my corporate presentations; the fact the road to mastery & greatness is not marked by sudden bursts of heroic effort, but rather by doing the simple, unseen things, day after day, longer than anybody else. Coach @larrycaincanoe has taught me tons about this in the three years we’ve worked together. So when Not-so-TinyT told me he wanted to pump some iron, we dragged a few kettlebells and dumbbells out to the cabin, wrote out a simple program… then didn’t miss a training day. All summer. Working out with Taj was incredibly fun, and today, on our final workout, we looked at how our numbers compared to the start. Pretty incredible changes in 2 months. Now think about two years. Or two decades. I haven’t posted much lately—I’ve been consumed with a 17 city Canadian speaking tour for a truly wonderful client over last six weeks. A couple of observations: - from coast to coast to coast, Canadians are kind people. There is far more that binds us than separates us. If you are ever disheartened about state of news or politics, I think aim for more ‘in person’ and less ‘online’ whenever possible. - When opportunity smiles, grab ahold! I knew this was a unique opportunity. After every event, I crammed a voice recording of my keynote into AI, had it analyze pause lengths in every story I told, graph vocal variation and audience response against time so I could see energy and momentum ebb and flow. I worked through the night on every wifi-equipped flight to better my message and slide dek. I never handed the same file to the AV team twice. Every event was a chance to iterate, learn and hone. In 25 years of speaking I don’t think my craft has taken such a jump. - From a speakers perspective, normally you prepare for an event, get yourself ‘game ready’…and then deflate a bit afterwards, as you carry on with normal life. But for six weeks I remained in a state of permanent readiness. You coulda tapped me on shoulder at any time, said ‘There’s 1000 people on the other side of that door. Go!’ The coolest thing about this was I started to be aware of subtleties on stage I’d never noticed before, and respond to audiences in new ways. Just so cool to see new doors of possibility open after 25 years in a craft. - And yes, haha, the number of people with colds in planes increases exponentially with every passing week through fall 😂 31 Oct 2026
